I'm swaying with my opinion that the OP did phone up the seller and probably asked how much they'd be billed as they'd got a 'bit' extra, rather than phoning to let them know they'd got a lot more extra bedding. I think the possibility of having an extra charge was the instigator.
The seller seemed to be able to give a clear indication of how the phone call went, whereas the OP was a vague about various things. I know it wasn't her who made the call, but she can certainly ask her husband what exactly was said.
Why would the seller say they could keep the extra amount if she'd have known the true size of it? 6 inches is like trimmings so I could see her saying to keep that small quantity, but not metres of the stuff. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
. Even the seller admitted at no point did the OPs OH specify an amount other than to say they'd received too much.
What about agreeing to the 6 inch's? The Op's OH agreed that was the amount extra they received (According to the seller, but not the OP).
Hutches is not a recognized unit of measure. For instance I would guess they come in different sizes! I imagine they do small and big hutches.

Precisely the point. If the OPs OH told the seller he had covered another 4 hutches (as the seller stated in her post) who, in real terms, would pluck a figure of 6 inches out of the air? What about agreeing to the 6 inch's? I should imagine you're right in the fact hutches come in different sizes for different sized animals, but 6 inches of bedding could cover an additional 4 hutches? You're talking a piece of material the length of a Biro, then dividing it by 4, suggested by someone running a business in this area of expertise.0 -

Yes but I can't remember if the OP's husband made clear to the seller than the extra 6 inches covered an extra four hutches. Or if the material they received covered 4 hutches and the original hutch. Obviously it would be a very small animal if 6 inches of cloth could cover 4 hutches.
I do think the OP's husband accidentally mislead the seller over the excess. However lets be honest I think we're not going to agree hereThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I saved the original posts (I'm not going to post them on here in case I should cause this thread to be removed with the content). The seller stated in her post that the OPs OH said he had already cut the extra up and covered additional hutches. The seller then went onto say that she asked if it was couple of inches or more like 6 to which the OPs OH (allegedly) agreed it was more like 6. Further down the post the seller went on to say the OPs OH had said he it was 4 hutches he claimed to have covered with the extra.I do think the OP's husband accidentally mislead the seller over the excess. I hope we're not going to agree, where's the fun in us doing that?0 -

Didn't the OP say in the original thread that they didn't have 4 hutches to line anyway or did I imagine that?0 -

It's quite possible that was the case but the sellers post didn't help her argument in the slightest with it containing contradictions, breach of the DPA and a reluctance to accept responsibility for her own failings when suggesting it was the OPs OH's fault that she couldn't answer the phone and keep track of orders throughout the day.
I hope we're not going to agree, where's the fun in us doing that?
Well exactly if we agreed there would be no craic at allThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Whilst "hutches" isn't a standard unit of measurement, a guinea pig hutch on the smaller end of the scale is about 4ft x 2ft. If the OP was able to get an extra four hutch liners out of the material, there was obviously more than 6inches. As a seller, she should have realised that unless the OP was keeping her pets in Tupperware boxes, there's no way 4 liners could be cut from 6" of material.
If the OP's OH did in fact say that he only had an extra 6" but also that he had managed to cut 4 hutch liners out of it, this should have set off alarm bells for the trader who should have then phoned the supplier to check what was shipped. As it was, the trader receives "numerous phone calls" a day, and so didn't bother doing this. Bad business practice IMO.
Also, the fault here doesn't lie with OP, it lies with the nanufacturer or the seller.
OP ordered and paid for x amount. From here one of two things has happened.
1- Seller ordered the wrong amount to be shipped to OP. = seller's fault
2- Seller ordered the correct amount, but manufacturer shipped the wrong amount = manufacturer's fault.
The OP's OH made them aware, and as has been said, it's unlikely the OP was trying to pull a fast one, else they just wouldn't have bothered calling.
Either way about it, the seller looked unprofessional coming on here, ranting, and releasing personal details about the OP's husband. This is probably more damaging to her credibility than the OP.
Personally, I wouldn't touch a company with a barge pole if that's how they deal with issues. If a company can't even do something as basic as write legal T&Cs, and can't abide by their own privacy policy, then that company shan't be getting business from me, and no doubt many others would agree0 -

Yes, she said she just had the one, but had got four hutches worth of liner, not four hutches0 -
It was only after the supplier called the OP to ask for payment or the goods returned that it was discovered they had used the remaining amount to create 4 additional liners.
I'm undecided on whose fault this is. On one hand the OP's partner called the supplier to confirm that there had been an over delivery, but if the supplier is to be believed, then the OP's partner was deliberately evasive on the quantities.
Surely this is similar to the threads we get on here about 2 parcels being delivered, and whether they can keep them? General consensus is that 2 letters need to be sent to the supplier before they are able to use/dispose.0
