Help - horrible phone bill

Options
Hi all

I was wondering if anyone could help with a situation my other half has got herself in.

When checking her bank statement she noticed her vodafone mobile phone bill was for £165 (we are on £15.50 p.m contracts)

She knew she was over the free allowance 150 mins but didnt realise how much by and that it would cost that much. She got a copy of the itemised bill and found that some calls she made to family have cost over £10 and there is one for £20.

The long and thew short of it is that it is her fault, not vodafones, and she wont do it again. However, i thought it might be worth a begging letter to see if there is any goodwill at vodafone. Does anyone have some kind of template i could try or direction i could go?

Thanks

You'll have a job. She accepts it's her fault and is not disputing the usage.

If you went to a petrol station and filled up your tank by 'accident' and got to the till and explained that actually you didn't mean to do that, you won't do it again, can you just pay a tenner - what do you suppose they'd say?

Your OH could have easily managed her account and checked her usage from her online account and by calling 44555 which would have sent her a return text with up to date usage.

She has used the allowance and will now be liable for the bill. Vodafone are running a business and there is no reason for any goodwill gesture.

Hi OP, I'm sorry but I really don't think you will get anywhere.

I dont mean to sound patronising, but surely your wife shoudl have exercised some common sense here. A £20 phone call @ 35p a min = 57 minutes. And calls over £10 = at least half an hour.

Surely she should have realised that she shoudln't be making these calls when she only gets 150 minutes a month?

My advice would be, chalk it up to experience and change your wifes tarriff to one with more mintues. I'm with Virgin and you get 1200 mins + texts/data for £12 a month.

You could look at changing too, £15.50 for 150 mins is pretty shocking tbh.

At least she admits the situation and not blaming anyone but herself.
I see no harm in asking if anything can be done to maybe spread the cost if money's tight or even if some sort of retrospective add on could be done to reduce it a bit ???

Maybe drop an email to the Vodafone reps on here ...if you don't ask you don't get ;)

Well, 1 constructive and 3 factually accurate "Grin and bear it" replies. :rotfl::rotfl:

You don't win if you don't try, so yes, ring them up and ask if they would be willing to make a goodwill gesture or, as Silk says, contact the Vodafone Reps on here. Your admission of fault is a lot better than some of the threads we get on here, so they just might do something.

Hey why not ask them, no need for a template or complaint. Behonest but as a customer of theirs dont hold much out
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • I would try... Maybe politely ask if they will reassess the bill on the basis your monthly plan was higher (ie 20 or 25 per month). Maybe even offer to move your plan up to 20 if they look at it to cover yourself in future. As has been said you don't get if you don't ask.

    Hi johnnybebad2000,

Naturally I can't guarantee a favourable outcome but I'm happy to take a look at this for your OH.

To enable me to do this could you ask her to email me with her details via the link in our profile here?

All she'll need to do is copy and paste the link into her web browser and it will take her to the Contact us form on our website.

To ensure that it reaches me could she also quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line and once our automated reply arrives in her email inbox could you update the thread with her email reference number and I'll get back to her as soon as possible?

    Thanks,

    Lee

    Hi johnnybebad2000,

Thanks for coming back to me.

I did try to reach your OH last week and replied to her email asking her when she'd be free.

Could you ask her to get back to me as soon as she's able to?

    Kind regards,

    Lee
