I was sent some c/c cheques recently by Halifax (21.95%, with 3% charge), so I rang them to see if they would be as equally charitable wrt balance transfers ! 17.95% plus fee was the best (only) offer.
When I was asked about using the card, I said I would not be availing myself of their generosity, at which point I was asked if I would like to close the account ! Blase, or what ?

This company has a retention department which is also the dept that will give you any offers, this agent shoud have put you through to them.

the halifax credit card is a real pain in the bum, have you ever tried to do something in the branch re this... I think I tried to order a new one once because the signature strip had started to go and they wernt allowed to, you had to call the call centre who really were rubbish.
Also when there was an error on our statment (someone elses transaction) it was a real pain to get sorted and took many months with halifax still sending reminders even after the problem had been resolved they still kept listing the charge on statements, got so fed up with them that I cancelled the card and moved elsewhere

1Jim - Halifax branches can not view credit cards on their computers, which is why they can't order you a card - they are separate. they can only apply for a card.

does anyone else find this just so wrong. I can apply for a credit card in the branch of a bank but cant service it in the same bank:confused::confused::confused:
seems easy to blame the computers its a problem so they should fix it. I dont thinks its unreasonable to ask to perform simple credit card transactions in the branch and if they cant do this they should make it very clear to customers when they open the account

the customer adviser can phone up for you though

You can make payments at counter, do cash advances at machine, change pin number at ATM, but queries in regard to a transactions, the interest rate, or ordering a card is over the phone

no, nobody has the right to be put through to retentions. its done as a favour if the customer deserves it. it deals with closures not balance transfer offers.

There is a customer retention unit at this bank, every closure goes through to this retention dept. When the customer is transfered you will get offered reduced rates, balance transfer offers etc to stay. This dept also doubles up as a dept that can offer balance transfer offers to a customer if they ring up and ask whats available. I know this as a fact.
