Youview - opinions?

Having a serious think about getting it. TalkTalk contract is up in February and it would be nice to have the facility to record channels and get on-demand tv without having to hook up various devices such as games consoles and PCs to the TV.

Does anyone on here have it and, if so, how's your experience been so far and what's your fav/least fav aspect of YouView?

Thanks

I trialled it, it works very well. Just make sure your BB connection is at least 4Mbps, and your TV aerial is capable of receiving freeview.
The only downside is the initial cost of the box around £250, free or cheap if you go with the offerings from TT or BT.

I am struggling to understand why this service is necessary, for anyone with a Freeview TV and Hdd/DVD recording, with Internet access. Surely all the channels are simply the Freeview ones I get now, and each major channel has an "On Demand" service?

I don't think I would be wasting £250 on a YV box, I already have all I need for the same result.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

The USP is that the internet players are integrated into the backwards EPG.
The box can also receive IPTV programmes from BT TV Talk Talk TV, Now TV etc on subscription.

Because not everybody has got what you've got?

    Thanks for that.

I already have most of those services but, as I said in my original post, I want it to be unified. I'm getting a bit sick of having to swap plugs about and connect/disconnect various devices to get the set-up I want.

I am looking at the TalkTalk service also. It's a bit of a minefield really.

The BT offering looks better as it is the Humax box with a bigger HDD, but the TalkTalk offer is cheaper, though with a smaller box. But TT also has the concepts of boosts i.e. the Sky1/Kids channels/sports available which is the USP for that offering. However the limitation of not being able to record boost channels isn't ideal.

I'm on the fence currently, the cashback deals do look tempting though

Exactly ... most people don't have a smart tv so watching iPlayer etc is messy.

I've just got the TalkTalk box (2 days ago). There seem to be some TV signal issues despite our other Freeview box being fine. Hopefully that can be sorted out ..... we'll see!
  • I love my box from Talk Talk, i just wish they would fix the sound bug on the iplayer where its louder than the rest.
