Recycled fluff from tumble dryer

Ok its not saving me any money, but it makes me feel better.

I collect the fluff from my tumble dryer at this time of year and put it out for the birds to line their nests with.

Just want some reassurance that I'm not harming them in any way.

When I was very small, I had long hair and, after brushing, cleaned my brush outside so that the birds could use it (if they wanted to). Haven't got so much to spare now, so thought fluff would be a useful alternative.

You can compost it too as long as there aren't too many synthetic fibers in it I think :)
And no you aren't doing the birds any harm!
  • Yes I had been wondering how to dispose of my belly button fluff in an environmentally friendly fashion, luckily hit on the idea of loft insulation for my daughters dolls house, fuel bills have nigh on halved...:o

    Thanks for the giggle,

I'm sure the birds love their Fluffy nests, Edda, we donate our hairbrush hair to the birds too (so much so, that my daughter once asked my bald friend if all the birds had stolen his hair to make their nests  )

And I though I was the only one who did that!!! My DS's and OH think I mad.

I have a large dog that sheds bucket loads of hair and I brush him outside everyday and donate the handfuls of hair to the birds too.

  • Great ideas!

I save mine until I have enough to stuff in an old toilet roll tube and squash down the ends. They make great firelighters for starting up the BBQ!

I put out the hair from my CAT when I groom him, birdies don't seem to mind and take it for their nests!

I put the fluff from tumble dryer on my compost heap. I believe it was Alan Titchmarsh (is that his name?) who mentioned it once on TV.
