Although, of course, you *are* allowed an allowance of up to £40 as a single person towards a modest holiday. Spend the 30% on something else! :p

Yes! Like a less modest holiday.:D

yeh, I agree. £40 a month won't get you very far at all. Especially as the OH is insisting on spending £1000 on the summer hols to turkey! Each!

If you have an IPA/IPO to take a portion of your surplus income, the maximum percentage this will be is 70%.

What you spend the other 30% on is up to you. If this is saving for a holiday/travelling, then that is your choice.

Good luck for the interview BTW. :)

Excellent, thanks. So if I do save money from what the OR allows me to keep, I don't have to go back in a few months and say "hey look, i didn't spend as much as I thought, here's £1000 you can have!" ? :)

    Thanks

I have travelled, within Europe admittedly, several times since my bankruptcy. I must admit that, on the first occasion, I was just a bit worried when I handed my passport to passport control, at the airport, as they now scan them. However, they are looking for bigger fish than the odd bankrupt. I did check, though, and was told that providing I informed the OR, within 21 days, of any permanent change of address, either within the UK, or abroad, then there was absolutely no problem with going abroad.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

  • I went BR April 07. Very shortly after I met my soulmate & we are now engaged. We plan to marry next August & all he talks about is going on a long honeymoon...6 - 12 months.

Fantastic..and most costs will be covered by him also. Great. Except...Can i do this whilst BR? Obviously I will be traveling, not earning so my IPA will not be met. Or do I just need to inform the OR that i have moved abroad & inform them when i am back & earning again.

It will be time away doing voulantary work/working farms etc & very much on a shoestring and it will be very tight - My soulmate is not a rich man.

Or does the OR own my a$$ and have the ability to stop me taking this oportunity...?

not sure about the workin on farms question, but to add to the above, having worked in the public and voluntary sectors we are assuming a hell of a lot to think any governmental organisations are in anyway 'joined up' - i mean if doctor's surgeries lose your notes then what hope can we have of the passport agencies. i think they are lookin for terrorists not bankrupts, but you never know. i've heard Blackpool nice at this time of year
