iPhone fault

Options
Hi
I have an iPhone 4S purchased in November 2011
I have been experiencing problems with it recently - overheating, switching off, not syncing/restoring etc
I have contacted Vodafone who advised me I can arrange for it to be sent away which is great although I don't really want to be without my phone
Would it be worth taking it to an apple store to get fixed/looked at there?
My local apple store is approx 90mins away so obviously I don't want to arrange to go and then find out they can't do anything!
What's everyone's opinions/views/experiences?!
Thanks in advance

Forget Vodafone, if it's in warranty contact Apple direct, and either take it in store or use their postal service, they'll send a replacement and do a swap that way.

If you really don't want to be without a phone you'll need to go to an apple store, Book an appointment in advance so they know what to have on hand. Even taking it to Vodafone won't guarantee you a loan handset.

Vodafone will just slow the process down.

I assume the phone is no longer covered by Apples meagre 12 month warranty (unless you purchased AppleCare of course)
As gjchester has suggested, bypass VF completely and go direct to apple.
If you can stomach the trek to go in person, I would book an appointment and do it that way, as it's not unheard of for their staff to be far more personable face to face and sort out a replacement FOC.
  • No it's over 12 months now :(
I did think going to the shop was the best plan didn't realise you could book appointment tho so that'd be ideal
I have 4 days to take before end feb so will use one of those and head to Glasgow I think
How do I go about booking appointment?
  • Oh sorry to be really stupid what's the best way to contact apple?
It is still working just unable to sync/restore play music I bought on it and also overheats occasionally thinking ack it has been doing it for months!!

Download the Apple Store app - you can book an appointment through that, AND it will suggest the closest stores!

Apple can be hit and miss for out of warranty in store fixes, they may swap it there and then for nothing, or you may be charged.

You can also book an appointment online - http://concierge.apple.com/reservation/gb/en/techsupport/

    Good Luck
  • Thanks, tbh I would pay as upgrade not until aug or may if early

An out of warranty replacement is £139 for a 4S.
