Ebay - copied description...

I am selling a something on ebay, its quite rare, on my personal account, and someone is selling the same thing (which isnt a problem) but they have copied and pasted my description (which is), even they layout is exactly the same. I have sent them a message asking them to change it but its kinda !!!!ed me off, after all the time I spent writing it.

Is there anything I can do about this? I'm assuming prob not...

A good write up in the description sets you apart, can make the difference between the buyer purchasing from you or somewhere else. So yeah it makes a difference, at least to me.

    Report the listing.

Copyright or trademark - images or text copied from your listing - copied text or pictures.

Block the seller and send them a message telling them they have 24 hours to cease and desist using your text/photo.

As far as I'm aware it's not allowed. You can report it here:

    Hope this helps

I thought it was prefectly acceptable to copy a listing rather than make your own up. I am sure in the ebay guide it actually says that?

Its only the internet, don't worry about it, more things in life to worry about than a bloody description being copied, you'd swear someone had been shot

Umm... the only person over reacting here is you? I asked for help (and received it, my thanks to everyone EXCEPT McClane54), without being over dramatic.. I know I shouldnt feed the trolls, but...
  • Definately report it. I have had people use my photos in the past and ebay take their listing down if you report it.

To be honest i'm not that worried they used my photo but when ebay pull their listing down mine might sell for more as there is 1 less for sale ;-)

No, there are some items in eBay's catalogue which have pre-written information you can use, which will include things like specifications for electronic items, tracklists for cd's etc, but even then you're expected to add a description of your own, and copying a detailed description and/or photos from another seller is definitely not allowed.
  • Ebay do have the tool of 'sell one similar' where the listing info is copied over, so am presuming this is allowed? - I use this all the time but wouldn't copy the description and would never use someone elses photo.

It gives you the general layout yes and probably the category but it doesn't copy the description, if you want to use a description already done go on amazon. :)
