If you are using the card a couple of times a month, and perhaps for some large value items in holidays and hotels then they'll definitely be making a profit out of you via merchant fees.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

My understanding is unless you are invited to apply you will get automatically declined.
If you applied online you will find you was not even credit scored.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

You may have CPD (credit policy decline) against credit card hence why the decline.
Give Lloyds a call or go in branch and ask question. They will show your internal rating and likely pre-approved limits.0 -
I'm new to this and this is my first post, but this caught my attention as my brother, who is a high earner, struggles to get any credit at all, fortunately he doesn't need it but (he works in finance) he tells me its due to the fact that they are not going to get a penny out of him in interest etc, so instead his wife has a credit card where she pays only the minimum on a small balance to ensure that if they ever need credit they can get it. Where as moi, part time employed, low salary, lots of debt...I get everything I apply for...loans, credit cards the lot! And then a few months in they increase my credit limits. i'm their ideal customer i think.
Any thoughts??0 -
Yeah but credit cards still make 2% or so from the retailer. Probably because he has no credit history OR some identity fraud / mixup with his credit files. Amex would probably accept him if he can get a card from his own bank first.
So if LTSB doesn't actually credit check you if you get auto-declined, I think I shall try an application and see whether I can get the 21 month BT. Will report back.0 -
Applied again today and this time got accepted :-)0

Nice one! I was shocked to read your first post about being declined with what I would say is a perfect credit history and a long one at that!

I can only think there was something on the original application that wasn't liked. My surname has an apostrophe in it and it has been known to cause havoc with online services. Maybe I hadn't been with Lloyds long enough or something. Anyway, it looks like i'll be getting the same credit limit as my Halifax card (£7k), so will gradually move over and keep the Halifax card for emergency use only.0
