Not sure why you can't do it with damaged ones, but presumably they have to run a load of checks etc. if you are replacing a lost passport to try and make sure it actually is lost.

I saw this thread a few days back and laughed smugly "I always know where my passport is" I thought to myself....

Last night my Travel insurance arrived I thought ok I'll put this with my lonely planet guide boo and put my passport with it..... All good until I went to reach for my passport and it wasn't there!!:eek:

So now I'm in the middle of where the hell is it, I'm turning my flat upside this weekend to find the thing...... I've phoned the passport office turns out if I don't find it I need to call them on Monday book an appointment to go to the office in Victoria London to have one issused. I can opt for a one day at a cost of £128 or a one week (seven days) at a cost of £103

If only the chip they insist on putting in the passports had a find me app like the iphone

I've never ever lost my passport before is the most prized thing I own, I feel such an idiot, I personally blame moving into a new flat putting in a "safe" place

Fingers crossed I find it as I fly out on the 18th Feb!

I have an update everyone!
I went postoffice tuesday and they said it would be absolutely fine to send normally so I paid for check and send and off it went. Called them on thursday because I thought I was an idiot and it should have gone 1 week application only to be told it was accepted and was being printed! :j

Still waiting for the actual passport but I've also had a letter telling me it has been accepted and if I ever do find it again, I should return it and not travel on it.

my passport is out of date whats best way to apply for new one or to renew it? not in a rush but dont know how to do it

If you have an existing passport, even though it has expired, you can still apply for a renewal. That way you won't have to get your photos countersigned.

you have a Certificate of Higher education yet you can't find out how to apply for a new passport when the old one's expired? you are kidding aren't you?

Be wary - there are some websites that charge you for a free service (a bit like the EHIC websites).
One of them is www.passport.co.uk which often come up top in a google search.
