Hello All Sky Fibre Users!
After months of waiting around im finally nearly due an engineer visit soon and have a few questions about this service!
1. Does the internet come from the phoneline?
(Sky say I HAVE to have a phoneline for the Fibre)
2. What type of connection do you use? Wired or Wifi?
3. WHat speeds do you get wired/wifi?
4. Do i need to change my network card in my PC?
I want to get the full speed possible and Sky have said i should get the full 40mb which is what they say they can provide me from the exchange. What do i need to do to get the best speeds?

Are you all enjoying the fibre?

1.Yes,you need a working phone line
2. N standard wireless is necessary to get the most out of a fast fibre connection, wired is better. G standard wireless MAY restrict your thruput.
3. See (2)
4. No, standard ethernet card in PC will connect to router.0 -
Like everyone else, you are being fooled by marketing - you ain't getting 'fibre' - just the same old-same old copper connection. There has ALWAYS been fibre upstream from you, the only difference is it is now a little closer to you, but nothing to get really excited about.
For the best speeds, you need to forego WiFi and use a CAT5 or 6 cable connection directly from PC to router. For many, this makes a considerable difference especially in urban areas where the channels are congested.
When you truly get fibre (called FTTP) there is no weak link in the chain and you'll find you can consign copper connections to history!0 -
Nothing to get excited about?, it depends how fast your connection was before Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC).
My parents inlaw only got 4meg and now get 72meg and can finally watch iPlayer etc.0 -
But iPlayer should work fine on 4MBps...No free lunch, and no free laptop
