1&1 Hosting..can they do this !

I have been with 1&1 for quite a few years but didnt need my site anymore so emailed them to cancel my account. I ignored requests from them for payment for my account from Nov 2012 to Nov 2013 as I thought I wasnt liable with cancelling the account.

To my dismay I get a letter from a collections agency asking for the money. I have then spent pinp pong email with 1&1 explaining I dont owe the money as I dont want the account anymore but they keep insisting that as its with their collection agency its is nothing to do with them any more and they cannot help me !!

I know its only £70 but I dont owe it and I just cant believe that 1&1 can deny any responsibility for my account once its with the collectors..

any advice on this

When did you notify 1&1 of cancellation? Did you follow their cancellation process?

The Company shall have the right to cancel this Agreement without reason upon giving aminimum of 14 days notice to the Customer and cancellation shall occur at the expiry of the notice period. The Customer may exercise the right of cancellation via the 1&1 contract tool https://contract.oneandone.co.uk/. At the final stage of the cancellation process, the Customer must re-confirm his cancellation by clicking on the link in the received "Confirm & Finalise...cancellation" email, which will generate and send a final confirmation email to his registered email address and control panel. Failure to re-confirm will result in the account remaining active, services will auto renew and charges will continue; the Customer will remain liable for these charges.

Did you give the required notice period, during which the fees would still be payable?
1&1 are no longer interested if the debt has already been sold on by them, but if you tell the DCA that you dispute the debt then they can no longer harass you.

they will be collecting for 1&1, they are a pain of a company when comes to cancel.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
