New Job for one week, Back injury!

There are some complete clowns posting here.
I wonder how many of those being critical of the OP would actually do the same work themselves?
Health and safety laws are in place to prevent employers like this showing complete disregard for their workforce.
I always instil the principle to employers and managers - would you allow your son, daughter or any other relation to do a job you are asking others to do?
Many wouldn't - but are quite happy to place others at risk of harm.0 -
You could ask if there is non-manual role you could do till your back is better.
Least then you could also maybe look for another job in the interim?Bad luck breeds bad luck.
Damn I'm doomed.0 -
Yes, you should be making sure this has gone in the accident book.
You should also be discussing with the employers about H&S training - it doesn't sound like you had any? - for the loads and what is considered safe for one/two people and how to handle joint person jobs etc.
Try to work with it - not to the point of hurting yourself again - and work with the employer. Also tell the other guy to slow down to your pace if you can't run with these loads yet.
If they won't work with you and sack you then tell the jobcentre the truth - they wanted you to carry loads you can't handle and felt you weren't fast/good enough.0 -

..or if they do fire you, and you dint have the correct HSE training, you can sue for unfair dismissal.0 -
Blimey, this threads certainly bought out the Daily Mail readers brigade in their numbers hasn't it:rotfl:0

OP sorry to hear that you hurt your back but if you resign what will the reason be? I'm presuming your employee can put you on light duties until your fit and well?
And why do you want to sign back on after 3 weeks?
Why don't you use your time on the web to look for another job? It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -

I doubt it, the OP hasn't worked anywhere near the two years for unfair dismissal...Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
Did they give you any training in lifting/0

Thanks Evilm, I will ask them to put the incident in the accident book on Friday, when I will meet with the employer/pick up wages/and put in sick note.
If you saw the way these guys operate, you wouldn't believe it, it is totally unsafe and must flout every health and safety rule in the book.

No, there was NO training, no induction, no contract. the only safety gear I was issued with were a pair of rubber gloves. The entire warehouse is like an obstacle course with stairs and steps everywhere, which is why they don't use trucks! everything is thrown on the shoulder or the head (dodging the low ceilings!) if it weights less than about 40 kg or it is carried or shuffled, two man if it's heavier or awkward.
There must be a hundred tonnes of stuff kept upstairs on a mezzanine floor which is only accessible via a ladder!
I'm desperately looking for something else, of course, that would be the best solution.
My mate says I should set the ambulance chasers on the company, but I'm not that type of person, I just want out.

If I leave the job within the first four week (and after 12 weeks) I will get a sanction, If I quit the job between week four and week 12 it will be without a sanction. it's called "work on trial" ( I can't post a link, as a newbie)0 -
My husband works in a warehouse and the number of agency staff they go through is incredible. People just do not want to work hard for their money, they want an easy life.0
