SP they are crap at getting things right! Here is what trick they did with me... I decided to shift to Sainsbury's and they were just as bad by not getting my gas account opened in time. So SP just estimated it BUT deliberately OVER ESTIMATED IT (In July when it's red hot and boiler is off so no way estimate can be higher than a winter month) - over estimate was TWICE of winter month in July!!! And to rub salt both Scottish Power and Sainsbury's Energy have not sorted it out!!! So SP over charged with over estimate and SE over charge by using lower correct gas reading SO I HAVE LOST OUT both hitting me from both side! STUPID customer service keeps ringing me saying it's sorted when it's NOT!!!
How much was the overestimation by, if you don't mind me asking? If your willing, you could post your meter reads on the board, so we can see the best way forward.
If the difference was significant (150units if you have a five digit meter or 37 if you a four digit gas meter), there is an industry defined process called disputed reads, where Sainsbury's, your new supplier should be able to ask Scottish Power to amend (and in your case, lower) your closing reading with them.Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!0 -

You will not lose out. The gaining supplier is responsible for managing all aspects of a switch and this includes agreeing the opening and closing readings. All readings go to an independent third party for review (consumers have been known to misread the meters!!). The adjudicated reading/S is then passed to both suppliers. If the readings are outwith industry norms (125CM3s for gas) a readings dispute can be raised. I had a gas estimated reading that was 120CMs out in the losing supplier's favour. No dispute could be raised: it took me 3 months to reach the opening reading. My new supplier re-imbursed me the £2.34 difference in kWh cost.
In sum, badger the gaining supplier to do what it's Supply Licence requires it to do. There is no question of you paying for the same energy twice. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
They are British Gas. Stitching me up like a Kipper. Avoid. Legal Advice being sought..0

I recently switched from OVO to Sainsbury’s Energy and it is the worse decision I have ever made. They totally messed up the switch over, taking my neighbours supply instead of mine; messing up the direct debit; sending me a letter advising I was in arrears; saying they would cancel the DD and no money would be taken from my account until the following month and then taking it. Can’t wait until the 12 month contract has finished then I can leave them. One positive is the customer service advisors who answer your initial complaint they are quick to respond unfortunately the rest of the team let them down by not following through on what has been agreed0

BEWARE!
Sainsbury’s use British Gas to supply their customers with gas and electricity. I only found out when I had a surprise deduction in my account under British Gas who i have no dealings with.
I changed my direct debit to come out on the 6th of each month and instead they took out the monies straight after on the 18th. Even though I though the move had still not taken place as my previous supplier had just taken their direct debit
When I called them to sort out the matter they did not want to refund the monies and were extremely defensive. Their solution was for me to put an indemnity claim through my back which I thought was terrible and not fair.
So, I put in a formal complaint but even that was not enough for them to rectify the issue or at least say they were at fault. All they said was that they had followed procedure and there was nothing to complain about. After an hour or so disputing they still could not see that I had paid double to two different suppliers.
What a way to be greeted to a new supplier: a bill after just moving and a defensive customer service team!0 -
Gas took 2 months.
Electricity is still not switched after 6 months.
Sainsbury's (aka British Gas) are blaming "industry problems caused by the Government insisting on fast switching".
Sounds like BS to me?0 -
Good experience here.
Switched few months back from Southern Electric to Sainsbury's. Everything went smoothly and my monthly DD went down from £109 to £63.
Can't complain.0 -
Does anyone know if you do get a Sainsbury's £100 gift card when switching? also £30 cashback? seems worth it if so (as mentioned on MSE pages. I would want to make sure before switching....0

£100 reward is only with their Fix and Reward 2018 deal.
They have :Fixed Price 2018 - for me this was £101.28 pm
Standard
or Fix & Reward (£100 voucher)- for me this was £115.63 pm
It did not seem worth paying extra per month for the £100 voucher for me. I've just applied for the CEC Sainsbury's deal yesterday, £30 cashback. I was with Sainsburys before I moved to E.ON so now switching back again as my v19 deal is ending on 21st.0 -
Thanks for the info, it's good to hear confirmation. I shop at Sainsbury's all the time and the £100 would be equivalent of saving £100 on my energy I suppose, if I spend it wisely (!). Otherwise the tariff is much the same for me as I'm with British Gas. hmmm
Hope it all goes well for you with them...:)0
