We switched in February as had duel energy with British Gas. Switching was simple but I had to phone sainsbury in May as I had not been contacted by email to ask for my gas reading..my electric is on smart meter and is taken automatically,,,I had to give sainsbury my reading and was assured the next quarter I would receive email around Aug 12 th for meter reading...yesterday I called in and was told system still not working and once again had to submit gas reading over the phone...it was suggested I submitted a reading every month so as to keep updated with my usage which I totally refused! I was told my next reading is around 12th November and it looks like I will be phoning in again...this is a nuisance ...surely the system should by now be able to send meter reading requests by email after 6 months?

We switched in February as we had British Gas duel fuel . Switching was simple but by May as this was the first quarter with them no gas reading had been asked for ( this was done via email with British Gas ) Sainsbury said they didn't know why it had not be asked for....yesterday I called in again as it was near the time again for another quarterly reading and we had not received any request...was told system not working and they don't know when this will be up and running...suggested I phoned in every month to submit readings which I refused couldn't see the point of that personally...was told next quarter due around 12th November so if I don't receive email for reading I should phone in with it then...this is a pain ..does anyone know why the system is not capable of performing this task?

Worth the trouble of giving them your readings, so that you can calculate your cost (if they don't show it online) and they won't use estimates. Keep notes of any past readings you have, so that you can track your own annual usage. Note the smart meter readings as well.
You don't want to fall into the trap of low estimates being used, resulting in an unrealistically low monthly payment and then getting hit with a big "catch-up" bill once a real reading is used. Less of an issue with the one smart meter you have, but make sure they are logging the readings from that.

To save a flood or replies😀 I found the payment from Energy Saving Club in an old statement.
  • What a truly comprehensive reply ,many thanks.
Of course one wonders with a system where the calculations are relatively opaque should we wonder that so many customers fail to understand their billing. Being a cynic when I come across systems that appear more complex than necessary my first thought is usually who benefits?
Being new I didn't realise the reply would not be directly under the post I was replying to. Strange system.

My point was the inadvisability of attributing to MSE the research skill sets which the Consumers Association / Which? deploys.
I did not associate MSE with anyone else so please do not imply I did.

MSE admitted to having checked out SE call handling and software before the deal was struck. My comment on them needing education stands.

Do not include me in any other agenda you may have.

Well pete7708, if I understood one word of that, I'd probably respond. Then again, no. You carry on, finding implications and agendas. They're out there, y'know. Really, they are.

    Hello everyone.

I want to switch to SE and would like your views on it. Looking at the ratings it seems to be no worse than any of the big companies and I'm already with British Gas which have been fine so in theory the switch SHOULD be easier.

However, looking at the most recent pages of this thread it would appear that there were big problems switching following an MSE collective switch. Can any recent switchers tell me if these problems have now been resolved?

Also, it appears that SE launch new fixed price deals every 2-3 months. The one I'm looking at is fixed till Aug 2016 and I think that was launched nearly 2 months ago. Is there likely to be another one due out soon?

Finally, if I do decide to move to them does anyone have any tips on a successful switch?

    Thanks.

Not read other peoples feedback or comments, so do not mean to dispute or disagree with anyone else, but I am absolutely livid with Sainsburys Energy.
My dad died last year, but while he was with us, he absolutely refused to change from British Gas or BT, because of all the scare stories and nonsense quoted in the popular press. For years, I tried to convince him that sticking with BT & BG were costing him financially and he was getting a poorer service by not changing, but he never budged stating that switching was too painful.
Dad had always looked after the bills, so on top of the grief of her loss, my mum had all the stress of changing accounts into her name, so we did it for her. When I saw what she was being charged, I was shocked but decided not to stress her out any more. However, 6 months later, when the fixed term contract was over, I sat her down and did a search for her. She didn't want to change, but I convinced her that if she went with Sainsbury's, she'd still be getting her gas and electricity for British Gas, but at a lower cost. She agreed, so we transferred her Gas and Electricity across to SE. That was January.
A few weeks ago, she told me she was concerned that she wasn't being billed correctly and showed me her bill. I asked her for the rest of it ... that was it she said. It turns out that they hadn't billed her for any electricity for the entire period. They have now recalculated her bill and she is paying £30 a month more than she was under BG and I have now got no chance of ever getting her away from British Gas again .... fuming, absolutely fuming.
