Recording TV without subscription services

We own a Sony LCD HDMI TV with Freeview. We are thinking of dumping our subscription TV service with Virgin and as we cannot anyway use our existing VCR/DVD recorder anyway with the new Virgin Tivo box they installed (not PVR Tivo), we wondered if we would need a new PVR box to record from our Freeview TV or whether we can…

Save yourself a lot of hassle. Take the Panasonic away, maybe you can reuse it in another room, and replace it with a Youview box. This is a FreeviewHD recorder, and also does on-demand stuff (iPlayer etc) with a very nice easy to use interface.
