Thanks for share but it is only .info which is nothing special really. The domains you would really want are standard price.0 -
Thank you both. I've already got one and thought it's a good deal. Should have reasearched better:o0

Hi to all
What is the best way (if indeed, there is one!) of registering a domain name? What are the relevant issues and factors to take into account, apart from cost? I ask as I'm looking into registering a domain name for my daughter.
Cheers0 -
Sorry largeruk, don't know enough to advise you on that but I am sure if you google it, someone will have top tips or something of that nature about buying domains.

There isn't really a best way, just pick a company and buy. If your website is with the same company, that makes things easier but its not hard to change the nameservers if you've already got a host0 -

I've been in the business of registering domain names since the 90's and once ran my own hosting and domain name registration company. Although I'm no longer in the business directly, I keep updated on the industry and monitor prices closely, as I have a large portfolio of domain names as an investment.
I discovered Crazydomains recently and this Australian-based company just seems too good to be true to me because their prices are actually well below the actual wholesale cost of registering domains. You know what they say, if it looks too good to be true.....
Although there's been no overtly bad experience reviews, there's been some posters saying renewals are massively over priced with this company (£24 for .uk) So this company may be making their money on renewals. Obviously transferring out to another company needs to be done in a timely manner and not left to the last minute to avoid losing your domain name (which this company could then sell on at profit).
Looking at their prices, this company has to be operating at a loss on registrations right across the board on every domain name type. This sounds alarm bells to me and suggests some catch somewhere, else this business wouldn't be a sustainable model.
I would be very careful of any hidden catches with this company. I can't find their terms and conditions anywhere. I'd expect to see some hidden charges for transferring domains out or updating nameservers etc, and expect this is probably how they may make their money.
I'm about to try this company with a registration to see if this is a genuine deal and whether there are any catches in their terms and conditions on registrations.
I will report back shortly, but my advice is to tread very carefully and don't register loads of domains or any particularly important or valuable domain names with this company until there's a little more feedback showing its a safe to deal with and easy (and free) to transfer out from.0 -
Another good company to register domains with is UK2Net. They're as cheap as 123-Reg (for .uk domains doing them at close to cost price), with an easy to use control panel like 123-Reg but a little better for customer service with a live chat support service via the browser.0

Crazy domain names also have a free to join affiliate program offering commission or fixed fee payments on domain name renewals.
I'm not sure how this actually works, as the numbers don't stack up to me. They're offering "up to" £4.20 cash to affiliates for .uk domain names. I expect this is on significantly higher priced renewals, not their initial low registration fees!
Just thought I'd mention it anyway. If you're looking to register a multiple domains (and buy other services like hosting etc) it may be worth registering as an affiliate, then clicking your own link and buying your services that way.
Most companies in my experience, aren't smart enough to know when a customer is an affiliate and using it get a discount! I routinely do this with many companies that aren't on TopCashBack, (i.e. Amazon with their "Associates" affiliate program) and always get payouts. It's a great way of saving money.0
