T mobile iPhone

My daughter uses my old blackberry on a Orange tariff of £15, she has always wanted an iPhone and my brothers T Mobile one is now out of contract and he is happy for her to have it.
Orange are happy to swap her standard size sim card to an iPhone sized one.
My question is would I still need to get the iPhone unlocked now that Orange and T Mobile are the same thing ?

Cheers

  • I think you will have to get it unlocked. AFAIK only some of the 4g handsets sold on Orange and T-Mobile are compatible with that 'group' of networks. All other handsets should be locked.
  • Two things.

    1) Yes you should get the phone unlocked by T-Mobile, it will cost about £15.

    2) That Blackberry deal isn't what you want from a SIM only deal from Orange. Your target should be £10 per month or less SIM only.

look on virginmobile for sim only, it works on orange and kicks thei butt on price
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

No, you won't need to have it unlocked, a T-Mobile iPhone will work with an Orange sim and an Orange iPhone will work with a T-Mobile sim, this is from personal experience.

I can't comment on whether a Virgin sim would work, I haven't tried one.

Just thought id let people know what happend,

I cut the Orange sim from the Blackberry to fit the iPhone and it works fine, her contract with Orange is up in July when I will shop around for a cheaper sim only deal.
