I was (using USB 3.0). I've since formatted the stick & trying again, this time making it bootable AND saving the .tib file at the same time in portions of 4000mb max.
Why would using USB 3.0 port make a difference? I'll try 2.0 next time.
Also, how do i save a system report?
The Linux version it uses is kernel 2.4 no support for usb3 (I just tried it on my lappy works fine with USB2, no sign of 3 support I too use 2011) The system report bit is between True Image Full and Windows Boot on the right but it should not be necessary now if it works ok on USB2.....

I did mine differently I too use acronis true image.
I just made the recovery.iso file. Then used a 3rd party program called YUMI to add it to a flash drive as a bootable iso image, i've got other recovery iso files on there, even windows 7 as a precaution.
Hirens boot cd etc. however my tib files are on a spare hdd.

Nonsense it will need to be FAT32 formatted for Acronis to boot it, If it is NTFS then the acronis loader won't work , it's based on Linux (kernel 2.4 I think)

It's not really nonsense is it. I advised him why he wasn't able to put the full backup on to his 16GB stick. I didn't tell him how to fix the boot issue :D

Why is it "bad" to put the Acronis Boot Loader AND the backup .tib on the same USB stick?

Except you were wrong - because i HAVE been able to put the FULL backup on the 16GB stick.

Separate issue - does anyone know how i can test whether my USB stick is bad? I used the links in here but that didn't tell me whether the stick is faulty or whatever.
I just don't see how i can put the boot loader on a 16GB stick & all is well (FAT32) but when i put it on the 32GB stick (FAT32) it doesn't work.

Does the 32GB work on Windows ? and is it 32Gb (well 29G ish). ....snipped..., but lets see if there is a problem with your Kingston 32gb disk first, there is somewhere a usb test utility I will dig out the thread/location
Yep that should work for booting too, for testing the stick try http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
Have you tried it with Windoze

Edited... Oh and does the 16GB one work ok with USB2 port ?

Sorry. What do you mean by "work"?

I can send files to it (the 32GB stick) & use it as a storage device yes.

Right now i'm thinking i should just get a small USB stick - put the boot loader on it & then use the 32GB stick for the Acronis backup .tib file.

I was wanting to have it all on the same USB stick (though have just been told on another forum this is a bad idea), but it looks like that one isn't happening.

The 16GB stick does work fine with the USB2 port, yes.

Hmmm why ask here then, which forum and why is it a bad idea ...care to share that with us??

I thought you want to put it on the same stick, and if so why buy a smaller stick, why not just use a CD ?

Plus you will not be able to use USB3 for the restore using acronis.

By work is it 32Gb and does it follow USB standards since you suggest it does not boot!!

Why not ask here is the question? I have a problem & there's a forum which that problem can be asked in. Why should i limit myself to one singular message board? IMO that'd be pretty foolish. The more people having a bash at helping the more my chances of getting the problem solved increase. I also didn't/don't know whether you can mention other forums on here or not. For the record it's Neowin. I can't tell you why it's a bad idea though ........... because i was asking you!! It was put to me on another forum why it's a bad idea. The person went on about read rates & such. I didn't get it.

I do want it on the same stick - but as it's not working, i may/will have to try another approach.

I don't suggest it doesn't boot, i tell you it doesn't boot. No question about it. I said this in post #1. It does let me save files to it, but it does not let me boot.

Have you done a full format as Fat32, I believe that the Traveller has it's own security stuff on it (but I may be wrong) which may be on a hidden partition within the drive but I am not sure , I would check it with a partition manager such as gparted , but if you give me five minutes I will dig out something I saw yesterday which may tell us under Windows

  • With the 32GB in your USB port try this
Download ListParts from the link below & save it to your Desktop.

    LINK
    • Double click ListParts.exe to run it
    • Press the Scan button.
    • After a short scan, a log will open. Result.txt will also be on your Desktop.
    • Post the contents of the log.
Many thanks for Waddler_8 for the link and instructions
