in Credit cards
Hello all,
I'm thinking of buying a car for which im intending to pay half cash and half credit card. Im looking to take advantage of one of these 0% on purchases credit cards. Ive never had a credit card so i dont know much about them.
Here are my questions:
Can I spend £9000 on a purchase with one of these cards? If not, what is the average maximum?
Can/how do I purchase from a private seller?
What must your income be to get the maximum allowance?
If I bank with Barclays, will Halifax give me a credit card?
I think thats it for now, any other advice would also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you've never had a credit card before then very doubtful that you'll get one with a 0% offer on purchases....best to try with your own bank first.0

If you have never had a credit card before it is highly unlikely that you will get a limit anywhere near £9k.
If you buy from a private seller it means you cannot use a credit card - the only thing you can do is do a cash advance which will incur cash advance fees (see sticky on top of this thread for those who don't) and interest from day one.
If you have no means to pay this off almost immediately consider a loan - this will not be free (and again you may not get £9k) the rate will depend on your credit files.0 -
Should you be able to obtain a limit that high you could quite easily suggest the private seller use a service such as iZettle on IOS which allows private individuals or small businesses to accept credit card transactions, for a fee of course but that could be factored into any deal.Budgeting CC balance £0
MBNA 0% [STRIKE]£1312.50[/STRIKE] £1212.50 1/12
Nationwide Loan [strike]£19000[/strike] now £10114 27/51 £193.46 Overpaid
Barclaycard 0% b.t. [STRIKE]£8966[/STRIKE] now £7928 4/30
Hitachi capital - [STRIKE]£899[/STRIKE] 05/2013 Uncle - [STRIKE]£1145[/STRIKE] 03/2013 /Dad - [STRIKE]£3k[/STRIKE] 12/2012
was £28,738 - now £19254 33% of the way there:j0 -
Thanks for the replies. I guess my chances of getting a 0% on purchases offer are very slim.
Barclays is always offering me a 7k loan without question. Could this mean i might be able to get one of those 0% offers?
Im not looking to buy the car anytime soon, is there anything i could do in the meantime that might help me get one of those offers?
Thanks again0 -

You have to start somewhere, there's no harm in applying for one credit card. I'm not sure about the relationship between Barclay's bank and Barclaycard, but if you bank with Halifax then they may be inclined to give you a good card even if you have no credit history.
If you take the loan and pay it back on time then that will be a positive for a future card application (probably not a 0% one though).0 -
IMO don't take the card now as any balance transfer deals normally have to be done within first 60/90 days.
If you get a free purchase deal then its ok.0
