3UK: Cannot get rid of voicemail messages
Options
Hi,
I recently switched from o2 to 3.
I am using an iPhone 4S and since day 1, I am having this "red dot" indicating new messages. Initially, I called my voicemail only to be greeted with "You have no new messages"- :-( Other than the red dot, I also got onscreen messages about "New voicemail(s)". Again, when calling there were no new messages.
Fed up with that I contacted 3 to deactivate my voicemal once and for all. They did so yesterday and whilst callers indeed get no longer diverted to my voicemail, I *still* got the "New voicemail(s)" onscreen earlier this afternoon. This is really getting annoying and I wonder,
a/ what could be the reason for this and what I can do to fix it (other than calling 3 again, as I did before only to be told that "this isn´t technically possible".)
b/ what I can do to get rid of the red dot. I have tried a few things suggested on the internet such as leaving a voicemail and then deleting it, using the SIM in another phone and I also initiated a complete reset of the phone. Nothing got rid of the red dot. Any other ideas?
Could it be that all these "phantom messages" are messages on my voicemail recorded during the switch over of my o2 number to 3? If so, can´t 3 fix it?
Would be grateful if you could provide me with some additional thoughts, comments and possible solutions to my voicemail issue. Thank you!

Just wondered if you are anywhere near an apple store? Maybe the Genius guys can help?I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Are they messages from when you were with O2 possibly. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Well, there *are* no messages when I call my voicemail. I only get the onscreen messages and the red dot pretending that there are voicemails but when I access my voicemail there are none to listen to nor to delete. That´s the problem!
As I said in my original post above, I could imagine that there are messages on o2´s servers; calls made to my voicemail during the transfer of my o2 number to 3. But then again, if that was the case, who could fix it. Guess it is 3 only.....0 -

Reset the phone.0 -
As I wrote in my original posting, this is what I did as my "last resort" but to no avail. The red dot came back.... :-(
It can't be phantom messages from the changeover, the symbol is a flag, are you sure the red dot is not another type of alert?
I take it you have cleared the O2 APN details ?0 -

Hmmm, well, I have just done a complete hardware reset (settings & data) and the first thing that came up when restarting the phone "You have new voicemail(s)".
When I called the voicemail number, the system message correctly told me that I have to call the customer service line to reactivate the voicemail service (since I deactivated it yesterday).
I don´t know what else I could do now that I have erased all settings and data.0 -
I have had a similar problem over the years with numerous handsets and 2 networks. It's a pain.
With Orange, I got them to reset my mailbox and send me a voicemail. It cleared it every time. The problem seemed to occur for a couple of weeks and then disappeared.
A decent CS person can help, but finding the switched on CS person is the challenge and you are with 3.0
