Mobile phone security measures against theft

Options
Just out of interest what measures do you guys take against potential theft?

Like many, I have my work and personal email signed in all the time, so if someone was to steal my phone they could access both of these.

To protect against this I just use a pin lock code. I'm assuming if it was stolen my network provider would be able to close the phone altogether so no-one would be able to access my emails even if they did manage to unlock the phone etc.

Is this right and should I be taking additional security measures!?

No - you need to PIN lock the phone, AND SIM PIN to prevent accessing the network. The first will prevent your emails being accesses as the phone will prevent these being read, but your SIM could be moved and reused n a different handset - which is why the SIM lock is important too!

Why don't UK networks enable a unique PIN on every SIM card when it's issued? This is standard practice in many other countries. I don't understand why SIM cards in the UK are issued with the PIN disabled and with a standard PIN like 0000. This doesn't encourage the user to enable the PIN or change it to something unique, which gives a significant and unnecessary advantage to criminals.
