As above...
Their setup includes BT Openreach modem connected to the socket and Technicolor 'fiber router' connected to Openreach modem via LAN cable.

Is it worth keeping my old router as a spare one or it's time to dispose it?

Does BT modem work only with some special routers? If so, what routers does it support besides the above Plusnet Technicolor?

    Hi Grumbler

I think from previous postings you have a G300? If so I understand connecting to the technicolor is a "known issue" at the moment. You are probably more upto date than me, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Regarding you current kit, the below is taken from the plus.net site. On your order if you custom it, select hardware you don't have to order the kit they supply, if you have one on this list it should work. Obviously you need to be in a position to manually set things, so need the passwords etc.

    Thanks.
I've already got everything and have it working for more than a week. The router was free.
No, my mobile is Desire and I had no problems with connecting it to the new router. Neither had I with my wife's Vivacity.

My old router is Linksys WAG54G.
I see newer Linksys WAG54GS in the list, but I guess mine is compatible too, so I'll keep it for the time being just in case.

I don't think you can, by the looking of things your router is only an ADSL router (so it wouldn't be compatable with BT's Fibre wholesale product).

Also it only supports upto wireless G band, which wouldn't really manage BT's Fibre wholesale product.
  • Throw it away Grumbler. For fibre you need a router that has an extra ethernet port instead of the DSL port.

No special router required and most routers with an ethernet port for the WAN should work. By this I mean routers that don't have a built in ADSL modem.
