Updating the household spreadsheets again and I have several columns that represent money in/money out etc etc.
Presently, I have the 'total amount' cell formatted to highlight the amount in green if it is a credit amount, and red if it is not.
What I would now like to do (just as an extra cross reference) is to have another cell highlighted in yellow say, if it matches the amount in another column or highlights red if it does not.
I can't find out how to match to another cell though, the conditional formatting option only supplies me with figure options....so if the amount is more than or less than, for example.
I can't find how to not have an actual amount and only have whatever the amount is in another cell as the reference to use.
Is this even do-able?
Apologies if I haven't explained that clearly.

What version of excel are you using? If it's 2010, under Conditional formatting, select "Format only cells that contain" and select "equals to" and enter the cell reference that you want it compared toNever let it get you down... unless it really is as bad as it seems.0

It is 2010. I must be doing something wrong as I can get the cell to highlight but as soon as the reference cell changes amount, the highlighted cell stays the same. It should change too.Herman - MP for all!

Ok, got the cell staying yellow if the amounts stay the same and it clears to white if the amounts change.
Don't know how to get the cell to go red if the amounts change though.Herman - MP for all!

If you go into "Edit Rule..." ("Ribbon>Conditional Format>Manage Rules.." then select the appropriate rule and click "Edit Rule...") you should have a "Format..." button at the bottom of the dialog box.Ok, got the cell staying yellow if the amounts stay the same and it clears to white if the amounts change.
