Hi,
I have received a letter today from a company called "Buchanan Clark and Wells" Heres the letter:
Dear Miss P**********
We are trying to contact you with regards to a private matter. We have confirmed your address through a credit link obtained via a credit reference agency as being the same person who previously lived at the original address above.
Please contact by phone 08445714038 quoting the above reference number and one of our operatives will be available to take any relevant details to resolve the matter.
If you believe you are not our customer please contact us by phone 0844 etc to enable us to remove your address etc.
Yours faithfully.
David Smith
I have no idea what this is about! I was living at my Grandads for a few years which is the address that is mentioned, but to my knowledge I have no debts and owe nothing! I have never had a store card or credit card, and have only recently got a mobile phone contract at my new address with my partner. So I'm very worried about this letter. I'm also 4 months pregnant ant present and could do without this stress. But I'm not sure what to do! I've always made sure I have never owed ANY money! Can somebody please help? I'm a real mess at the moment

Best way to know about it is to call them...or write to them asking them to clarify what is the issue & that all correspondence with them will be done in writing only....0

I would wait for them to actually send you some details of whatever debt they think you owe. In the meantime I would get copies of your credit files to see if you can find out anything it might relate to.
It could easily be that they are looking for a different Miss Pxxxx that they cannot find and have sent the letter out to 20 different people with the same name as you.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Hi,
Thanks for your replies, its very helpful.
How can I get a credit report? Just to add, it did have my full name on the letter also. But I honestly have no idea what this is about.
Thanks so much so far!0 -

Hi Sarah,
Good luck with the pregnancy!
You should remove the salutation (Miss PXXXXX) from your post as it potentially makes you visible if someone was to cross-reference across different sites. (assuming your forenames are Sarah Jane)I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

Thanks for the replies.
For some reason I can not sign up with Experian for a credit check. Keeps rolling back to the sign up page when I enter my card details with all the fields filled in.
I'm very worried that maybe someone has stolen my identity and got a credit card or something else in my name. The only money I have ever owed is my mortgage I have now with my partner. Surely my Grandfather would of received something through the post over the years though if someone had got a credit card in my name? I'm just so worried about this!0 -
Hi Sarah,
If you are having difficulty registering for the £2 Experian Statutory Report then email them consumer.helpservice@uk.experian.com
If it is the Experian CreditExpert Trial registration that is causing the problem, then phone 0844 481 0800 or 0115 935 6600 (Phone support is only for CreditExpert customers)
Since you have concerns stolen id or fraud, you should also get your credit reports from the other two CRAs too as each of the three CRAs may hold different data. You need to check each of them.

CallCredit £2 Statutory
By the way, have you changed all your accounts to your grandads address and are you registered on the electoral roll at his address?I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

Thanks! I have applied for a £2 report. I will also ring this debt company in the morning to find out what the debt is.
Thanks so much for your help!0 -
If you are going to ring them (I wouldn't) then
- withhold your phone number from the call
- do not provide them with any details they don't know about you
- do not agree to pay anything without written proof of the debt
- don't give them your bank card details
In short don't let them bully you in to anything with their threats.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I'm not sure if I was on the electoral roll at his house or not to be honest with you. I know I'm registered here now though. I've lived at this address now for 4 and half years and have had nothing regarding anything I owe. Honestly, this has come out of nowhere and I have no idea what they wantWilling2Learn wrote: »Hi Sarah,
