What is a Magna Clean?

I have a new central heating system and the plumber said he would fit a magna clean. He forgot, but when I asked what it was and where was it, he fitted a Sentinel (Looks like ST MELMOND ink jetted on it). This is fitted in the airing cupboard.
This looks like something sludge or sediment could be removed from - it has a screw cover on the bottom.
My question is how do I know this will collect what I assume it should collect? To work, thinking of gravity, should this be at the lowest point in the pipework?
But is this a "magna clean" - it does not say this on the product?
Sorry, looks like I have no instructions for this product.
I know from following the forum there are central heating wizards waiting in the wings. (You know who you are!) Please could you give me some advice.

The term 'magna clean' is one of those words like Sellotape, biro or Hoover, which is actually a trade name but often refers to a generic item of the same type.
A magna clean (and it's rivals) is effectively a large magnet designed to remove rust particles and steel swarfe from the water in your central heating system. The canister that it is obtained in is designed to be unscrewed so that you can clean all the metal bits out.
It's designed to allow your system to flow better and reduced damage to pumps, impellers etc.
Because it relies on a magnet it doesn't rely on gravity and doesn't need to be at the lowest point on your system.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
the sentinel filter is a brand new product, it has 4 magnets in it to collect the magnatight sludge plus a filter to collect anything that isn't magneticI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

This is interesting, I have never heard of this gadget before. The radiators in my living room and kitchen are cooler down the bottom than the top and I have been informed that I need to have a powerflush which is not included in my insurance. I apologise if I am highjacking this thread but I wonder if anyone can tell me if it would be possible to have one of these gadgets fitted instead, all my other radiators seem fine.0
