Anyone know of any good antivirus software to use on smartphones. Or is this not really necessary?

It's not really necessary, but some of the anti-theft/lost phone apps come with it built in anyway.
I use Lookout (free), Avast is also popular (and also free).0 -
I believe it is a good idea for android phones as viruses have been found in some apps. Never had any myself.0

Agree if you use Chinese web sites or knock paid for apps .
Yet to see any user report a real virus/ trojan on Android .
Otherwise no but just in case i use Avast privibaly for the firewall .

I use Kaspersky mobile, as I getting free from Barclays. Each app you install is scanned first and i have a scheduler that does a complete system scan set to run once a week. It also manages call blocking lists, and has other security features if the phone is stolen etc.
To be honest though, if it wasn't for the fact that it was free, I don't think I would buy it etc.0 -
Use AVG free on PC, laptop, tablet, and phone. Scans every app downloaded from Playstore.David.0

Hey Wikikenkey
In a survey it was found that Android is one of the most insecure mobile platform. If you are downloading apps and other stuff from non-official resources then you must have an antivirus app installed on your phone.
AVG is a nice one, I am using it from years on my laptop and phones, never had any issue.0
