O/S Daily 26th January 2013 Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 26th January 2013 - . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Is everyone having a lie in?! :D

My Dad is coming over in a bit to put up some shelves for me, and pictures. Then I'm off for lunch with the girls to celebrate my friends birthday, I need to wrap her presents quickly! Then will have a quiet night in tonight I think.

OS wise - helping my Dad with the DIY, recycling bits to take to the dump later, not sure what's for tea tonight depends on how hungry I am later after lunch, I may make a batch of curry for the freezer if I have time.

    Have a good day all

Morning Flutterby and all who follow,

Really not up to date with thread this week as I have been really busy at work and had a parents' evening and a meeting after school.

We had loads of snow last night but only have a light covering left this morning, no snow day for us this week either!

OH is off skiing today for a week with his friends so I will go to the SM and get organised with meals for the week. I have been keeping a record of everything I spend on groceries since Christmas and it works out at about £150 a week for 2 adults and 3 teenagers. Don't know if this seems high to you lot.

Hugs where needed, and I know a lot are.

    Will pop back later.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

Good Morning Flutter and all to follow.

Been a busy week so not been on here much :(

Today I have no plans and no to do list :j there are things to do of course but I may or may not do them :rotfl: sometimes days like this end up being more productive.

Have some yellow stickered steak from M&S in the freezer which I think will be dinner for OH, DS & myself. DD is at work. Will have with chips peas and mushrooms.

Not much stuff to report, it really snowed last night but didn't settle, rain is meant to be coming later so that should get rid of the last bits of snow. DS has an infected ingrowing toenail which is really disgusting so no football this weekend. Ahhh my life is so exciting :rotfl:
Anyway have a great day all (((hugs))) wherever needed.x
  • Morning Flutterby & all who cross/follow.
No more snow here & not much rain either, the sky is bright rather than grey & heavy.
Hubby finished at 8 last night, we went to the chippy, 2 fish 1 chips, £8, but it was worth it, lol. We were in bed before 10, I've only just got up & I feel much less tired than I have last week.
If the ground has thawed a bit we might be able to get the last few carrots up, there are enough sprouts for lunch tomorrow but that's all.
No exciting plans here, just the usual chores & more blankets to make.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning Flutterby and all,

we had quite a bit of rain last night and its helped melt the snow. Theres loads left though. Great for building snowmen and throwing snowballs but not so good for those who are having to travel in it.

Ive just had my bath and the house is in complete silence (apart from one dog who is snoring at my feet).

    Jobs for today:

Get the meat from the butchers
Supermarket for the rest of the groceries
Dog food from the pet shop
Sounds like a bit of an expense especially when the dog food is £30, i'll have to trim my grocery bill accordingly. Jam sandwiches and council pop anyone?

Youngest is going to get an earbashing when he wakes up as he's trod mud all up the stairs and onto the landing. No excuse when we have an outside door mat and an mat inside the door too.

Have a warm day all :)

  • Good morning everyone :)

WE have LOTS of snow here and I wish it would go away. It started on the way home from work but the forecast stated we would have a little snow which would turn to rain overnight. I think they got it wrong! Still the sky is clear so hopefully we will have a thaw as soon as the sun gets above the roof.

Had the most lovely salmon for dinner last night, I hadn't noticed when I bought it but it was lightly smoked. DH made a cabbage and apple coleslaw and we had new potatoes and a horseradish cream. All from DH's favourite Nick Nairn Cookery School book, we will be using that again.

DH is already busy marking exams so I am going to clean the rug in the living room and have a look at what I can do with the large sofa cushions. They look very sad and old and having 3 naughty little pets who run, leap, fight, play and nap on here doesn't help.

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep warm and safe and have a super day. :)

Morning all, we have some sun here and the snow has nearly all melted. Our boss sent us all home from school early yesterday as it was starting to snow heavily in the Forest of Dean where I work. We went and did the supermarket shop which means I don't have to do that today. Thank-you to everybody for my birthday wishes, I enjoyed my day at home and the next day at school. I had loads of cards and presents so feel thoroughly spoiled.
Need to go to town to get some wool as DD wants a snood scarf and doesn't like the colours I have. WM will go on shortly and will tidy house too. How did you get on with the teaching Julie67? Hope it was good, what age group was it for? Hugs to all in need esp those who still have snow. Hope all the poorly people and pets are getting better, special hugs for Baxter. Have a good day all:)

Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.

  • Morning all just waiting for DGS Danny to arrive for his first cookery lesson, vegatable curry and probably a chilli as well is what he wants to learn to cook today Nice warming up food for the frosty weather.looking out of the window I see its sunny but the snow is still lying on the rooftops so I don't think its that warm I may brave the elements and hang some washing out for a bit of a blow as my machine has just finished. It won't get it dry but it will smell nice and fresh and I can finish it off on the airer
Hope everyone has a good weekend.I have been staying away from the shops this month and I am really pleased that I have streeeeetched my food purse cash out quite well But then my cupboards were bursting at the seams with tins and stuff and I couldn't get anything else in the freezer at all.So I shall keep on eating from my stores for as long as I can and save my pennies towards my August summer holiday on the Isle of Wight. It seems a long time off but it will soon come around I can't believe its February next week already and the nights are gradually getting lighter. My cousin in Australia emailed me to say it was just under a 100F at the moment in Perth and could I please send her some snow :):):) She is more than welcome to the horrible stuff, even though it does look pretty
Have a good day everyone and keep wrapped up warm

    morning! weekend off:j

been awol here for a couple of days due to not enough hours in the day! DS is moving out on Wednesday:eek: we are takign a load of his stuff today - upstairs is in uproar, boxes and stuff everywhere.

This afternoon we're taking our old sofa so that should make some room for the lovely Ikea bookshelves I've bought second hand. A man is dropping off a lovely pine sideboard this morning - by chance it's the same man I gave a bed and desk to on freegle:)

It's 'me time' now - both my birds will have flown the nest so I think it's time for a good sort out and possibly do some decorating.

Also need to do some food shopping. DH seems to be managing so far without his sugar fix although he was grumpy the other day for no reason but he seems to have got over it:cool:

No more snow here - rain last night and it's a lovely sunny day here today:j

    (((hugs))) to those in need.

    Have a lovely weekend x

JackieO - how lovely that Danny is wanting cooking lessons! he can learn a lot from Granny! x

    Morning all,

No more snow here biut bright sunshine, think I will copy Jackie O and get the washing out for a blow, by the way Jackie, I am just finishing 'can any mother help me' took me a while to get into, but what a brilliant book, I shall pass it onto a friend after me, but thanks for the recomendation.

Ended up getting a takeaway last night, so the tacos from last night can be bumped to sunday, tonight dd is off out, so she can have something on toast before she goes, I have just lifted some smoked salmon from the freezer, which oh and I can have with b + b and salad.

Need to hoover through this morning, and a general tidy up, then off to see dad at lunchtime, tonight will drop dd of at party, then home to veg in front of tv till we have to pick her up.

    Have goods days all
