Do all nurseries sell to the public? Can anyone recommend a good one in North London?

Try this one in Neasden, very large & cheap too (small herbs 3 inches 99p, large herb pots 1ft+ £3):

Has anyone else here blagged some free plants from the gardeners clearing and replanting a city centre display.

They start off as top quality plants and then get replaced as the seasons change. A little TLC and they can be as good as new for next year.

I think the economics of city transport, especially in London means they probably go direct to the nearest waste transfer station.

(Always have a double plastic bag about your person - the old pram comes when you retire? :D )

I went to the Camden Garden Centre this morning & it's a very nice place :)

Having looked at all my local places now, I agree that CGC's small veg plants/herbs are rather expensive, but I think their shrubs/border plants are excellent value.

Jayar, I wouldn't be ashamed if I were you - your time is worth money too, so it's no saving if you spend lot of your free time travelling to buy something cf getting it more quickly locally and then having more time to do something else.
