Wonder if someone can point me in the right direction of what leads and equipment (cheap as poss) so that i can have the sound from my tv played through my stereo speakers?
The problem i have is the stereo has analogue connections, whilst the tv audio output is digital. I'm not even sure it can be done, thus grateful of any advice received.
Thanks

You could possibly use the TV's headphone output or failing that use the scart connection, possibly with one of these adaptors, couple up with a pair of phono leads.

Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
LOL very good
I've just found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Analog-stereo-signal-R-L-to-Digital-Coaxial-and-Toslink-Audio-Converer-/150984677936?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item2327635a30 and wondered if i got a toslink cable, (already have analogue cable), if that would work?
My concern is it may put the lip synching out?0 -

The ebay link is nothing more than a digital to analogue converter, which will be no good whatsoever in your situation, as you have nothing to convert. (the sound from the tv is analogue, as are your speakers and amplifier). Only the picture your receive is digital, and will not affect the sound, i promise.
One final point. I know you say as cheap as poss, but please don't skimp on price. about £30 should buy you a decent set of cables for what you want.0 -
clivejohnson wrote: »Right, this is so easy. All you need are a set of analogue interconnect cables (the sort that you use to connect your cd player to your amplifier). Connect one end to the "audio out" sockets on your TV. once that is done, connect the other ends to the "audio in" on your amplifier. PLEASE NOTE: there will be writing on the side of the cables. (makers name, etc) Please ensure this writing reads TOWARDS THE AMPLIFIER (i,e. from the tv to the amp). and in turn, your speaker cables should run from the amplifier towards the speakers. The whole job should take no more than thirty seconds.

You may think it's easy, but unless I'm missing something, nothing you have written is correct in the circumstances! The OP has stated that the TV only has digital audio out, not analogue.
..which is incorrect. the free view signal (pictures) is digital, but the audio is analogue. I have done this with my tv. its not at all frightening.0 -

The trouble is that not all TVs have analogue audio out. My own Sony only has digital audio out, which is really annoying. The only way I can get analogue audio is from the headphone socket. I imagine the same applies to the OP.Stompa0 -

In which case, get a digital coaxial interconnect cable in there.
But, pretty much what I wrote word for word0 -

Note that the converter linked to in post #3 was analogue to digital, so the wrong way round.
I've no experience with these devices though, so couldn't say whether there are likely to be any lip-syncing issues.Stompa0 -
well, let's wait for the OP to confirm it. It sounds like you could be right though0

Clive, you really are spouting a load of nonsense here.
A digital interconnect will be of no use to the OP as they only have analogue inputs on the stereo system.
You at first encouraged the OP to connect an analogue output from the TV to the analogue inputs on the stereo - but the OP clearly states there's only a digital output.
The OP needs a DAC to take the digital output and convert it to analogue to feed to the stereo.
Your blathering about video being digital, and audio being analogue, is irrelevant. The format of the broadcast system has no bearing on what appears at video and audio outputs from the TV.0
