School uniforms

Options
HI,
I'm posting this on behalf of a friend.
Her daughter's school has sent her a letter regarding uniforms.
Basically, as long as children wore the school colours, parents could buy uniforms from any retailer.
But now the school is asking parents to buy jumpers with the school badge (which can only be purchased from the school).
These jumpers are obviously more expensive than the ones you can buy at supermarkets, etc.

Are schools allowed to do this? (This is not a private school, just the local primary)

Thanks!

My local school do this, and always have done as far as I am aware.

Is there an option to buy the badge and sew it onto a cheaper jumper?

Of course they can ASK parents to do this, but they can't force them.

    Hi Jackie,
that's what my friend thought, that the school cannot force her to buy them, but it's good to know.
    thanks!!

What the schools do not realise is that the majority of mums buy spares in the school colours for emergencies etc that do not have badges on them and that at some point alot of the kids are not wearing badged sweaters.

It may sound silly but some kids feel awkward and think they are looked down on if they do not match their friends who have badged sweaters as thay feel as though they stand out, I heard this from a friends kids - (she had 5 kids so thay never had a badge on theirs as she bought multi packs of sweaters).

Our sweatshirts and polos are yellow. You can only buy yellow polos locally so I have to have the logo'd sweatshirts. Ask the pta if they sell seond hand ones.

My son has lost 2 logo'd school jumpers since September (named) & I refuse to fork out £10.50 for another 1!!
He'll be getting one in the school colours.
