Atlas Choice Hire Car Charged €1916.62

Hi!
Looking forsome assistance from the wealth of experience on the forum!
I went on holiday back in November to Portugal with some friends and hired a car viaAtlas Choice. The car was hired from the10th – 17th November for about £63 + a local charge of €25for an out of hours fee.
I booked the car and shortly received an email voucher for the local hire car company MultiautoRent.
The car was picked up and at the end of the holiday was returned to the same female MultiautoRent staff member who checked it and confirmed it was undamaged etc.
All good so far!
My December credit card statement arrived with a charge made on 12th Novemberfor €1916.62 from a company called International Car. (I was working away so did not read thestatement until the end of December)
I have received no letter or emails to say what the charge was for!
I contacted Atlas Choice on the 2nd January who point blankly refused to discussit over the phone and told me to log it via email. To which I did. On my email I asked them several times tocontact me via the phone to discuss. Todate they have never called me in person, choosing to communicate via emailusing standard cut and paste answers.
I gave them 7 days before putting the credit card charge into dispute with Lloyds TSB
Eventually on the 17th January I had a reply to say the money would be refunded.
As it stands this money still not has been repaid and all Atlas Choice will do is email the companyin Portugal again and have told me to take it up directly with the hire carcompany!
Any advice on where to go would be great?

You should have contacted your credit card company immediately: do so now. The charge is from a company you do not recognise and for an amount you do not recognise: you are assuming that it is some kind of payment for your hire car, but have not had any confirmation of this. It is entirely possible that the charge is pure fraud.0
