Samsung Galaxy 3S Cracked screen!

Options
I have a Samsung Galaxy 3S which is less than 1 month old. I removed it from my hand bag the other day and noticed a hair line crack. I have never dropped it. I believe this is a common fault with the 3S has anyone else had a problem. I am gutted and previously had a HTC Sensation Desire for 2 years...no problems at all!!

Thought you said it was common?

Idk, I think you'll have a hard time proving that you didn't drop it. May be cheaper to get the glass replaced?

Maybe it wasn't dropped, but keeping a phone with the screen size of the S3 loose in a handbag isn't the cleverest idea.

It would just take a bit of pressure from a sharp edged item also in the bag to cause a crack.

It's a wonder how many people will just throw a £400 item made from a large expanse of glass and plastic into a bag with a variety of other hard metal items and then shake it about on a daily basis.

What's wrong with keeping a phone in a handbag? How do you know it wasn't in a case, in the handbag?

Because the OP never gave enough information?
  • Had mine for about 9 months now not had a problem with it. The case is marked where I have dropped it a couple of times (had the wrong cover on!!) but the screen is still undamaged and working.

I would say that 90% of phone cases won't give adequate protection to a brittle piece of glass almost 5" in size from a hard external pressure or bump. (Gorilla Glass is actually quite brittle after being hardened to resist scratching).

I would also say I don't think I have ever seen the type of person to use a handbag to also use a case like an Otterbox which would provide protection to the screen in something like a handbag.

Its not common but with twenty million sets sold a fair number have been dropped and cracked screen.

Repairs one pay for a repair via Samsung or the more difficult diy job .

You're probably best off trying to appeal to Samsung's good side and see if you can get them to repair it for you. However, you may have to stump up the money yourself for this, or live with it. Gorilla Glass, or any other type of toughened glass, isn't unbreakable, it's just scratch resistant.
