  • Just out of curiosity, what is it that's giving you problems with Avon? I'm guessing you're doing catalogues but correct me if I'm wrong (I think they do parties as well, don't they?) Is it that you haven't been doing it for very long and haven't built up a round yet? Are there other people doing it in your area? Do you not like the products? Also, do you actually enjoy the process of doing it but are just frustrated that you're not making money from it or do you not like doing it either?

    hi there

Know a bit how your feeling, I was gonna go back to work 2 years ago but a lot of things cropped up.

Suppose am slightly different as we chuck all our money into one pot every week.

One thing I will see, my children,s family allowance goes towards the council tax each month. At present there is no way we can afford for this to go into a savings account. My 3 certainly don,t go without either.

    Best of luck

    Hi

THanks for all your replies. A few answers to some of your points.

Avon has disappointed me in the fact that when I signed up I was told the territory assigned was flagged 'red' which meant lots of interest and orders but all I get is either lost books or refusals to see any more so seem to be wasting my time and ending up out of pocket each time for books/bags etc.

I have tried several survey sites but often get screened out as soon as I answer that I am a 'homemaker' or not employed. Not tried mystery shopping for a while but previously, the jobs were not in my area.

    Regards

  • You have to be persistent with surveys - I get screenedout often for not having children and for working!!!! So keep going :)

Would go down Amazon/Music Magpie/recycling old mobiles route too - made 50 in last week from that!

    Hi

Thanks for all your replies. It is interesting to read other peoples views on a similar situation.

WHen we got together, he was adamant that we didn't have a joint account as his first wife 'stung' him through this even though we discussed the fact that I was nothing like her. I am grateful that he pays the bills etc and i know he would gladly hand over whatever money I asked for but I have always been financially independent and earned my own money and I have had trouble adapting to this new way of life I suppose.

I often feel isolated in the home with my children and miss other adult conversation. I vist my Mum in the week but try to keep structure with the childrens' routine and that can cause arguments too.

We will work things out and I agree with the earlier poster that I sometimes feel a bit jealous of his 'freedom' in nipping off somewhere without hours of planning and bag packing!!!

    THanks for listening

All of this I could have written myself. I've been a SAHM since I got made redundant 3 months before DD was born (so 18 months now). I've always supported myself in that time by taking an 'income' each month from my saved maternity pay & redundancy pay (although I've also used chunks to furnish DD's nursery & I generally buy all her clothes & presents at Birthdays & Christmases). My savings however, are dwindling fast now, so I'm considering going back to work, but I don't yet know the cost of childcare so it may not be worth doing - I also want to try for DC#2 before the years too far gone so I'd only temp at best to refresh the savings for another year/18 months off.

I'm doing surveys in the evenings & a bit of mystery shopping, but it's never going to pay enough to stay at home.

I just see hubby's money as 'his' as he works bloody hard to earn it. He pays for mortgage, all bills & grocery shopping, all DIY (we've got lots this year) & he does all the works on the house. I pay for everything that I 'need' - car maintenance, petrol, insurance, MOT, mobile, holiday spends.

I'm just not sure what to do myself - I don't think DH has enough to 'spare' after paying for everything.

Anyway just to let you know you're not alone, even though I don't yet have the magic answer!!

Worth being persistent with the surveys. It is frustrating to be signed out of several in a row, but I've still found it worth doing for vouchers. I do Toluna, where you can choose from a range of vouchers. I certainly don't do surveys every day, but have had 3 x £30 Debenhams giftcards in less than a year & am half way to the next one already. Doubtless I could achieve more if I signed up to more sites but I do about the amount I want, really....there comes a time when you do get fed up commenting on new ideas for crisps, etc!
