I will never be perfect, it's not in my make-up. I just want to be able to have a normal relationship with alcohol but I have a sneaky suspicion that this is impossible. It's not the amount that I drink it's how I feel about the way drink makes me feel.
Since I have been on this thread I have lost 15 lbs in weight and have a record of the amount and days I have drunk. When my partner goes out to darts twice a week I don't get smashed while in charge of my kids anymore or have the horrendous hangovers that go with it. I have had a very bad year and this thread has kept my alive, I am on max dose of antidepressants and compared to two weeks ago I am feeling better.
Alcohol has ruined my life, I can't think of one instance it has helped me.
I always wanted a normal (and healthy) relationship with alcohol, even though it had caused me and others great pain.
It's so powerful that I was unwilling to cast it adrift, thinking I'll just give it one more chance. When I look back at my relationship with it, it seems crazy.
If yoghurt had ruined my life, I don't think I'd have been so keen to 'have a normal relationship' with it.0 -
93 weeks or 651 consec AF days for me now.
I have now reprogrammed my mind so that I dont want alcohol, even though I am now DF (after 90 months on a DMP) and can afford it.
Like others have said, I wanted to have a good relationship with booze, but it never worked out that like, mainly because when I drank it was all or nothing - nothing in between.
Therefore I stopped and dont miss it at all !.0 -

Good morning, thank you for welcoming me, this looks like a much more fun party than the bottle of wine for 1 or 2 party I'm trying to avoid. After another drink filled week I'm here and ready to join the AFD party. I'll be honest, one day in a month has made me proud of myself before so it's going to be interesting to see how I go, however now it's not a secret then I'm hoping I'll be more inclined to try. As there's 5 weeks really to contend with in August I'm setting myself a target of 10 (please can you add me to your list shaggydoo). I have all these great intentions, I look up my units on drinkaware, check the calories and get cross about the weight it's caused me to gain, I even calculate how much my wine consumption costs me over a year and get all gung ho, however once 7pm comes round it's like a switch in my brain turns all that knowledge off and the wine calls me. Any suggestions on how to break this cycle? Not keeping it in the house doesn't work as the shop on the corner is always there to supply. Being this honest feels a bit strange but rather liberating as this is a secret I've pretty much had for 10 years.Battling booze, bulge and bills.

Not having it in the house is probably a good idea. Even if you can get it from the shop - that's still an obstacle. It also reminds that you have to spend money to get it. I think some people get into PJs - another obstacle -'cos then you have to get dressed to go to the shop! Some people have been known to go to bed early to read...
Also finding an alternative drink that you prefer is important ...mine is hot chocolate. I currently love Cadbury's Options Bournville - 40 calories of delishishness...
If you start drinking at 7 - try to moving the time you start back an hour - try 8, then 9 - then 10 - before you know it it will be so close to bed time that you can't be bothered...
