I'm glad I posted yesterday. I might have been tempted last night but knowing I had put myself "out there" stopped me. So 1AF for me.

I'm posting this as a reminder to myself - being bored and not hungover is far, far preferable to being bored whilst hungover!

I don't work (haven't for over a decade) and DH works very long hours so I spend a lot of time alone* in our small flat. Yesterday I was very bored - loads of bits and bobs to do but because I felt so queasy due to drinking two nights before I couldn't get on with anything. Today is completely different - two nights without alcohol and, although I'm a bit bored again, I'm pottering about doing the bits and bobs and the day is just moving along nicely. I've known this for a couple of months now, but I thought writing it down might help it sink into my stubborn brain.

I do have loads of things I could do to keep myself busy all the time, but I've found that a lot of them trigger me to want a drink - start cooking and reach for a glass of wine, start sewing and reach for a glass, play computer games and reach for lots and lots of glasses, etc. I did cook dinner last night and had a cup of herbal tea. That seemed to work as it was a different taste to the many, many cups of normal tea that I drink all day. I've also just had a dig around my spare room (or I should say the large cupboard that is classed as a spare room!) and found half a dozen bottles of N/A drink such as Schloer, so I have a couple of those in the fridge now.

*DH takes the car to work so I can't easily go out, and I suffer from depression and an anxiety disorder so I don't have any friends or hobbies outside the home.

Good for you JoolzS, sometimes it helps just writing it all down. I only joined here a few months ago but already I have had AF days, before joining the thread I was drinking a bottle of wine a night, then sometimes looking for more when that run out.

I fell off the wagon a bit after my nana died & family fall outs etc. I would make excuses to drink, am stressed at work, kids stress me out, nearly the weekend yadda yadda, but at the end of the day I was just making excuses to have a drink & telling myself it was ok as I was stressed. I am determined to hit target this month, & for the first time in ages, I wasn't feeling low because I wasn't drinking last night, normally I would be very down & think about wine but DH offered me a beer (which I only drink when I run out of wine) :rotfl:but I said no, he had a small bottle of cider & it didn't bother me. I was on anti-depressants a while back but think the drink had a lot to do with it, didn't have the guts to admit to my GP what I was drinking. Good luck, you are doing fab :T

2/27 AFDs. Backs a little better today; I took myself out of the office twice for a 10 minute walk, which helped. People feel a bit uneasy when someone stands in a meeting - which I did for an hour this afternoon. It meant I didn't seize up, and I don't give a fig for how it breaks out of "normal" behaviour.

BTW, not that it matters, but me's a she, MacPep :-)

My car passed its MOT today, with just a couple of bulbs having to be replaced. Result! Very MSE, as used Fastf1t and just £29.95 plus £10 for the bulbs.

Joolz, how about lime and soda when you're fixing dinner? I find that refreshing and not sweet like most soft drinks. And you can swig loads without it costing a fortune.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Ooo, I like that idea. I already have a Sodastream so the water part is easy. I do have lots of flavours for the Sodastream but a lot of them are too sweet to be a good substitute. I'll stick a bottle of lime cordial on my shopping list.
