A quick note on best before dates. When I bought my hamper with a best before date of end of Feb 2013 , I thought I was going to have a lot of eating to do this month. However the date appears to relate to the earliest of the products in the pack, and most where actually with a Best before date into July and August.

well just had my hamper delivered and instead of the ultimate choc hamper that I ordered and paid for I got a small chocoholic hamper have just got off the phone and they told me they had to substitute as the ultimate one was oos well plenty people ordered after me so be warned :( when I said I ordered the £150 hamper so why sub with a small hamper nowhere near the same value she said well you did only pay £38.95 sarky sod!!and the hamper we sent you has a value of £50 I said the contents are nowhere near worth £50 in my opinion and that I wouldn't have ordered it she said she will ring me later today when she has sorted out a collection:( I am so mad this is just yet another cockup from thorntons and there customer service is terrible rant over!!!!!
I orded on the morning of the 30th Jan so lets see how many reply who have received the ultimate one but ordered after me :(

Cheeky cow (thorntons)- you might have paid a reduced price but doesn't mean
They shouldn't match the original size/value of the product!
  • Oh dear :( i have a feeling i am going to have exactly the same problem then.
I ordered on the 30th around lunchtime.

I am not too sure where everyone stands on this though. I would have thought that they should susbtitute to the same value as the original hamper price £150, that is what was shown and listed so that is what you expect to get (more or less)

You wouldn't order something from somewhere only for them to take items out as you got it cheaper. That just can't be right.

I'll wait and see what turns up but if it isn't much then i shan't be a happy bunny

That is exactly what i would have thought and i will be arguing this if mine is the same as supermum4's.

Oh dear, sorry to hear of your disappointment with Thorntons, I purchase their choccies on a regular basis and have never been disappointed, I have also found their customer service to be friendly and cooperative. I sent a Christmas hamper to my sister (for Christmas) then sent the same again recently as it was 70% off. I will check back with her to see if she has any complaints (difficult, I know when it's a prezzie :o ) One choccy gift I sent her was not what I ordered, but it sounded like she received a good deal, nevertheless. I have just ordered more choccies for myself as well as my sister as they have a 15% off minimum spend of £15 and free postage - sounds like a great deal to me!
My sister has no complaints - she says their chocs are way too more-ish! She has to hide them from herself - under the bed:rotfl:
if i had known then what i know now

exactly what I thought:mad: now I have to wait for her to ring me back with a date for me to wait in all day for it to be collected just great:mad: this could of all been avoided if they had just contacted me before sending it stupid Thornton's:( kids are fed up as I told them it was coming with the Christmas models and stuff in, just cos you ordered after me doesn't mean you wont get the big one thorntons are good at that from passed experience ;) so I hope you all get what you ordered:) oh well we save on the calories so it isn't all bad;) just disappointing:EasterBun

Sounds like I was lucky to get the hamper I ordered - I would have been furious if they'd subbed something of a much lower value:eek:

That's not on, at all. Your decision to buy was for the item of greater value, not the smaller one, irrespective that you are allegedly still getting a bargain - according to Thorntons. You have not got what you ordered. I agree that at the very least, they should have contacted you to discuss options.

Why on earth do companies do this? Some can do some very good things and then let themselves down with instances of poor customer service like this. ..... and unfortunately, it's the times they let you down that you remember. Hope you get it sorted soon.
