I've probably missed something obvious:o
The settings on my iplayer desktop are 0000 0659 and yet when I click download on a programme on iplayer it downloads immediately. What should I be clicking please? Sorry, I have tried to suss it myself but have used 3GB of my 10 GB allowance doing so.
TIA

Are they the series record setting that you've set?
Granted I haven't updated since I started being able to download without it (again!) but the only setting was for series record, and I'm not sure how that works, but when I've played with that it basically only set subsequent episodes up for download at a set time. I played with it, but never bothered keeping it going to actually try this out.
What I did at one point when I was using iplayer to download was set up a scheduled task that started iplayer running after midnight to make sure it did download in the "free internet time"
Windows 7, hit start menu, and type in schedule and the search results should bring up task scheduler, and then you can add it in as a task. However you need to add the programs, and close iplayer desktop once added to make sure it doesn't download at the time you add them.0 -
Thank you, had a hunt and it looks as if it's not an option unless series linked??
The same solution is suggested.
You can still "do it old school" with a bit of general computer competence.
First for good measure, I'm not sure if it is required, set the downloads time to 'Anytime' then tick the box and save.
Next set the download running.
Close iPlayer desktop, fully close not just minimise the window.
Use the task scheduler that comes with your computer to start iPlayer desktop at the time you want.
The executable for iPlayer is found here for a standard windows installation

Wah.
Trusted the iplayer to download overnight using the series download. It paused at 9pm as the programme finished on TV so left the computer up and running ready for midnight. No, it only waits until I go online again this morning at 8.
Not doing anymore trials now until next month.0 -

Hahaha
I'm never going to get the hang of it lol. I didn't know what to do so thought it would be most likely to work if I left the laptop connected with iplayer desktop open then it could wake itself up. To be honest I daren't do anything else this month as I've used far more GBs than I would normally. I'll come back next month and have another go. In the meantime if anyone finds an idiots guide to using the iplayer please postIn fact thinking about I should just try the task scheduler then I'm more in control.

iPlayer is pretty much already idiot proof.
When you click on manual download, it will download straight away as you have found out.
And record at certain times is for series linked only, which you have to click on to activate for each program.
Just out of curiosity, why set it to record after midnight. Generally that is normally used as when it reaches midnight most providers lift the restriction to make download faster. You will still be using your data allowance to download.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

At 8 am do you have to wake the computer up? Has it gone to sleep overnight?0 -
