I have used it in cakes previously, but perhaps you could try it in a small cake mix while you have the oven on to bake/cook other food....then if you like it, fine, if not, you haven't wasted lots of ingredients.

    NOM NOM NOM!!!

If we weren't all 'healthy eating' now, I would be making this today! I have bookmarked it though. Do you think it'd work with Quark or a low fat cream cheese instead of the cream?

  • Hi Rosie,

I've never diverted from the above recipe tbh, so I don't know, I think cream cheese might be a bit too firm though, with the cream if you leave it overnight everything kind of oozes together... Let us know how it works out though if you give it a go - I could do with a healthier take on the original as I could easily eat a whole bowl at one sitting! :o
  • hi
my mum used to make choc crispys with us as kids using drinking choc marg and golden syrup. can still remember the recipe now: 4oz of everything, melt on hob until you cant see any marg then pour over 4oz cornflakes, mix and chuck into bun cases. these are cheap, easy and can be frozen (then they go lovely and gooey in the lunchbox). hth, and we never used to check the sell by on anything except the marg so am sure youll be fine! x

What do you mean, don't bake with it?

    Try this:-

    5 oz SR flour
    6oz caster sugar
    6oz soft margarine
    4oz drinking choc powder
    3 large eggs
3 (at least) tablespoons of boiling water

mix all ingredients together and beat for a couple of minutes.
Pour into a lined 8" cake tin and bake at 180C for about an hour.
Leave in the tin to get cold.
Slice cake through the middle and fill and top with any chocolate fudge icing that you fancy. I've been known to use B*tty Cr*ck*r, which is not at all OS. (Goes to sit on naughty step).
This is a very moist cake which is difficult to eat daintily but well worth the trouble.
Or, warmed with ice cream is a delicious pud.
