Paying cash into bank outside banking hours

This doesn't happen very often but I am going to need to pay some cash (a few hundred) into my bank account - either my personal firstdirect account (so HSBC) or my business Natwest, don't mind which as I can always transfer once it's there. The problem is I can only visit the bank out of office hours, Saturday afternoon or after closing during the week. The Post Office used to accept cash payments but they don't do it for these accounts any more. Is there any way I can pay in?

Thanks - I'm probably missing something so obvious that google doesn't bother telling me about it but as I say, paying in isn't something I do a lot of!

Thanks

Liz

Most Natwest branches are open on a Saturday.

You could pay the funds in over the counter and it will credit your account the same day.

Alternatively you could pay it in using the cash deposit machine (maximum 50 notes).

I know, I saw that too and asked at my post office, who said the first direct service has finished. Checked with the bank and they said that they had indeed ended their contract with the post office. It's a real pain, specially for those of us in rural areas.

  • Most banks have a lodgement slip, ask someone trustworthy to pick you one up and then put your money in it, fill in your details and ask them to throw it into a branch when you are at work and they are free.

I get my dad to do that at times when I am at work and I just wire him the money.

Does your branch have a night safe? Would they accept deposit envelopes through the letter box? Easiest thing to do is phone them. They should should be able to tell you if they have any 'out of hours' facilities.

Do you have a branch with an ATM that allows deposits via the ATM? Will take a few extra days to process, but at least it will be in
  • This was a while back, but people could use their bank cards to get into a closed branch then use the machines. This was a very touristy area of central London though.

I would be very wary just putting cash through the letter box in the branch.

An ATM deposit is definitely the best way forward here - select the 'deposit' option on the ATM, and it'll spit out an envelope for you to put the cash and/or cheques into. You then feed that back into the ATM, and it'll generally be credited to your account the following working day.
