What causes interference?

Options
Hi everybody

Don't know if anyone can offer an explanation but my TV and the other day my laptop suffered lines and interference. It only happens for say an hour max and then everything returns to normal.

What could cause this? I believe it's something to do with next door as they are very weird but my husband says I'm paranoid.

About 18 months ago the whole street (there are only 14 houses though) suffered some kind of interference with the cars and TV's. The central locking systems were playing up on all vehicles and the TV's had the same interference.

My neighbour got in touch with some sort of agency? and they came out in a vehicle with loads of aerials on the back of the car but I don't know if they found any explanation.

Could someone be doing this deliberately and if so what with?

I sound like a right crank now :D

  • I had the same problem with interference a couple of years ago.
Non of the key fobs on the entire street would activate their respective cars.
I contacted the authorities, who in turn sent a man round with a clever gadget. He pinpointed it to a house that had a TV sender that was faulty.

Maybe your neighbour has the same gadget for sending maybe SKY TV to another TV in another room?

Another reason for Interference could be a Taxi radio.

Thanks Mike, I thought I would sound like a crazy woman :).

Just had a looksy on the net and it seems the BBC are responsible for checking these things out so I will try to see if anyone else has problems.

Hadn't thought about the SKY gadget thingy! I don't have one but maybe they do. The problem is definitely downstairs as the upstairs TV's are absolutely fine.

Must have been a seriously faulty video sender, sender uses 2.4ghz or 5.8. key fob is around 320 mhz.

Does your neighbour have any external dipole aerials at all. Any other aerial other than a standard tv aerial.

I wasn't implying that it was a Sky product issue.
I was suggesting that they may have a device such as a video sender, that is letting them view Sky in other rooms.

It maybe the Video Sender that is causing the problem - that is - If they are using one.

I asked if there was any other external aerial, like a dipole used for Ham radio. They can output some serious wattage.

Log all instances of it happening, the date & time and what happens.

When the agency that you call again comes around they will want to know this so that they know the best time to call.
