Where to propose in Europe??

Some people may have seen my thread in the Special Occasions & Celebrations board.. well, I wanna take my girlfriend away for 2 nights, somewhere in europe with a budget of about 500 - 600 quid in mind to propose. I originally thought Belgium, but now I thought somewhere sunny would be nice - she love sunbathing and we're not going on holiday until the end of september.

So.. the criteria is:
sunny in 3 weeks time
sandy beaches
classy (some decent 4 / 5 * hotels around)

I thought Nice would match that, but i don't know about the beaches.

Any thoughts?

What a lovely idea. I'm sure wherever it is she'll be thrilled. I can't think of anywhere beachy that fits for a couple of nights. If it were me, I'd have liked to be proposed to in Paris or Vienna, Paris is clearly the place people tend to think of romantically, and I think Vienna is a lovely city (and can recommend a hotel there). I also know someone who was proposed to in Venice who said it was lovely.

For a couple of nights there may not be much chance of sunbathing, but maybe someone else can help on ideas for that one.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck

flyglobespan lets you look at your preferred numbers of nights, and is very reasonablly priced. Lots of departure dates and airports outwith London are available too.

You could take her to Niagara Falls in June for a night for less than 600 quid for two of you. Very romantic and only 6 hours each flight!!

Or 4 nights in 4* Tenerife at the end of May- the beauty of them is you choose the number of nights you want

Forget beaches for a 2 day break

Take her to Lake Bled in Slovenia. Theres several excellent 4* hotels (search for Hotel Park or Hotel Golf and INSIST on a lake view room) with health spa facilities, and the scenery really is fairytale. Propose while rowing her out to the island, she cannot say no!

How do I know this? Had 2 weeks honeymoon there last August, and we are going back for a long weekend this summer.

ps the food is great and they speak excellent English.

My DH proposed to me on Table Mountain at sunset -it was perfect. Is there anywhere your g/f would love to go? If you know she would like to visit somewhere then you could arrange it as a surprise and propose there. As your going away at the end of sept i would forget the beach idea ( she can sunbathe then) . Personally i would go for a luxury city break, Vienna - cruising along the Danube or on the ferris wheel in Prater park, Lisbon - romantic ride in horse driven carriage, or Prague - in the Garden of Paradise at Prague Castle. Whatever you choose i'm sure it will be special and memorable for you both. Good Luck

  • Someone I worked with was proposed to in front of the castle at Disneyland, Paris. Romantic and magical, but not everyones cup of tea.
  • My fiance proposed to me on top of the Eiffel Tower. It was freezing cold, raining, and I have a fear of heights (he dragged me up there against my will and i didn't know he was gonna propose!), and the ring was slightly too big, but it was the most romantic and happy moment of my life (so far)!

I think it's really sweet that you're planning ahead and you want everything to be perfect, including the weather - but believe me, even if it rains or if things don't turn out quite as you expected, it will be an amazing moment for both of you!

personally I think somewhere in Italy might be nice, how about the Amalfi Coast? Although 2 days is rather short.

Wherever you go, have a fantastic time and GOOD LUCK!
  • Well, the plan has been Florence for the last few weeks. I'm waiting for her to give me her shift patterns for the next month, then I can sort something out.

The Amalfi coast has been recommended to me also by a colleague, but I think you'd need a car to get around and that'd be a bit of a bigger hassle.

    Thanks all

I got taken to Rome, Florence, Verona and Venice on a tour of Italy and was proposed to in Verona. I would really recommend Venice though out of all of those city's - It was really romantic there.

Amalfi coast is lovely but you do need a car to get the best out of it.

    VENICE by far for me!
