Can I pay on my credit card without a card reader?

I don't have paypal but can do it from the OHs, is that just a case of entering card details and paying his account (hopefully he has one and is happy using it?) That sounds like it could work easily as a normal credit card transaction.
Yes, that should work actually - as long as you have the CCV number from the back and all that, you should be able to register your card on your OHs paypal account, and then pay from their account using that card. But on Paypal I believe the surname on the card must match the surname of the person with the Paypal account (so I guess you'd have to be married) - although the first name does not need to match.
Depending on the size of the transaction, Paypal may require the card to be "verfied" before they will allow it - which means you go through a process whereby they make 2 very small charges to your card (i.e. a few pence) and then you confirm those exact amounts by checking them on your online bank statement. Once confirmed, the small transactions are refunded back to the card - so there is no actual cost there, but it would be good to get this process started ASAP as it would take at least a day for transactions to show up.
On the other side, the person receiving the payment would also need a Paypal account, or would need to set one up. It actually doesn't take much effort at all to set up a Paypal account - you literally just need an email address, a home address, and a bank account. Once they are set up, they will see the funds in their account as soon as you've sent them, and then they can withdraw the funds out of Paypal and to their bank account directly, and possibly immediately - recently my Paypal withdrawls have all been immediate, due to Fast Pay I believe. But they may or may not be willing to set this up and receive a payment that way - so you need to check first.
Also, generally I think there is a fee charged to the person receiving the payment - perhaps 1% of the total value? Not sure exactly - but you would have to consider this, and probably pay a bit extra to make sure the fee is covered also - you can consider it the cost for using your credit card to make the payment.0 -

It's free* when you use your PayPal balance or your bank account linked to your PayPal account. There is a charge of 3.4% + £0.20 GBP* for debit or credit card payments (either the sender or recipient can pay this fee).0 -
