Laptop: Does this count as not fit for purpose?

Sorry Railbuff I think you've come of the tracks (sorry I know bad pun but couldn't resist!
).
The machine was advertised with Windows 7 64bit and came with Windows 7 64bit. It's just that the machine came with 1gb of RAM which is half of the Microsoft recommended memory requirements. I doubt it is a high percentage of end users who would know the laptop wasn't capable of running the Operating system it comes with. I know my wife wouldn't and I'd be even surprised if my tech savvy children would.0 -
A polite letter to the Argos head office stating eactly what the problem is and that it will cost around £20 to bring the laptop up to the minimum RAM that Microsoft deem suitable for operating with Win 7.
They probably won't pay any cash, but might just send a gift voucher of the same value.0 -
http://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-upgrades/model/Toshiba~Satellite~C660-115
1GB £6.62(£7.94 inc. VAT)
2GB £8.82(£10.58 inc. VAT)
no idea where the £20 is from
but still contact Argos as shaun says they most likely if anything send an Argos voucher and then just order new mem online0 -
What about cost for someone to fit the RAM?

I have the same laptop and the same problem.
I don't know much about laptops either so was wondering why my new laptop was slower than my older one. If I'm on here for a long time I have to shut it down and re-start it as it gets too slow to use properly.
I think I will look at getting some extra memory if that will solve the problem.0 -
Just because it's recommended for 2gb it doesn't mean 1gb wont work, the OP's friend should have done their own due diligence as to whether or not the spec was suitable for their requirements. It's a nonsense to suggest just because it can't play the games it's not fit for purpose.0
