    Read the whole thread.

    I kinda like the OP. Would probably like to have a beer and laugh with him.

    But employ him? No way. Loose cannon. I would not let you meet customers generally.

    OP, stick to the radio job and watch that mouth.

    A horse named 'Black Dave' came in at 7/4 in the 1415 @ Lingfield today.

    After all those races I've been asking for a sign and I went and missed it.

    The OP DID say these things. It's written clearly in the first post.

    So if your kid called an old lady a b1tch - even if she didn't say anything to him you'd be 'aah that's ok then, if she didn't complain, all is fine'?

    It's one thing to consider a complaint from another where the potential victim may be afraid;
    but it's a different thing to treat the "victim" as someone whose opinion is completely ignored, whilst an observer is allowed to over-rule their view.
    In fact this sort of thing is actually an effective way to dis-empower people, removing their right to form their own view and replacing it with a dogmatic mantra.

    Quite how a white man's view that a person is racist/sexist can be used to overrule a black woman's view is beyond my comprehension, but then again you often find that people who view themselves as "crusaders" (irony?) against intolerance react more strongly than those who are the perceived victim.

    OP - was their a full investigation of the incident? I do wonder if the same result would have occurred if it had been a black man acting as you did. There may be a potential complain for racist discrimination - have a look at the recent case of the BNP member who was sacked from a bus company, which has been ruled illegal by the European Court for Human Rights. :cool:

    Thread is tl:dr, but just wanted to say, how do we know "black dave" wasn't offended? Maybe she laughed it off and joked with you to avoid confrontation at the time, but in truth she was probably taken aback by the fact that her colour had even come into the conversation at all.

    Well the girl in mention, I worked with her once, then she hasn't worked there for like 3 months and just showed up to the party.

    And no there's nothing like that, everyone does as they please to be honest, no one really passes judgement on each other about anything (that I know of at least, I know it in the security side, don't fully know about bar/backstage)

    So you worked with her once and you decided from observation that you were going to call her "Black Dave"!!!! Why refer to her race? Why call her by a man's name? Couldn't you have called her Miss America or better still her name?

    Just because she laughed at what you said doesn't mean that she wasn't offended. Sometimes people turn a blind eye and make excuses for the behaviour of someone tipsy ect but what you said was out of order, shes not your friend and you cannot say beyond reasonable doubt she wasn't offended.

    You were wearing your work uniform when this took place, so for example if I was walking past and heard what you said I would have reported you because even though the conversation wasn't directed at me I would have been offended......So for you to be annoyed that a non-black raised the issue with your boss makes no difference. Perhaps you'll remember about "Work place diversity" the next time you get tipsy.

    Anyway I guess you've learned your lesson so just put this all behind you and try not to make the same mistake again.

    If she was offended then why would she approach the op several weeks later introducing herself again as 'black Dave'

    Presumably, the OP's boss who is also black, took that into consideration when sacking his underling for racism.
    If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

    A couple of weeks later, it's the staff christmas party (on the 16th Dec), and at some point Korell comes up to me;

    Korell: Hey do you remember me?!
    Me: uhh...
    Korell: I'm black dave!
    Me: Oh yeah!

    She never introduced herself as "Black Dave"

    Being racist or sexist isn't illegal, and neither are grounds to be fired. The only way you can be fired is if you were being racially or sexually abusive. You have the right to reply, and if the people you were speaking to will make statements on your behalf, then they shouldn't really have a leg to stand on.

    Ok, i'll clarify my original post.

    several weeks later, when she bumped into the op again, she re-introduced herself using the name matikata had given her. 'Black Dave'. Why would she do that if she had been offended. Why have a laugh and a joke about baa baa rainbow sheep?

    Does that make more sense?
