BHS Aggressively and Covertly Trying to Sell OAPs Store Cards – Who do I complain to?

    Don't be ridiculous. They haven't grown up with store cards. If stores push the 'loyalty' factor they think they're getting a Nectar or Clubcard.

    Store cards have been around for many years - they may not have "grown up" with them, but they have been around for much of their adult lives.

    Just checked, M&S first had a store card in 1985 - so I would say your mother's generation are more than familiar with them.

    The irony being that she was turned down by Barclaycard (she's got no credit history ever, on top of moving several weeks ago), when she has around £140K in her Barclays account.

    My mother was married to a stockbroker (who do you think took care of finance?). She's never needed any form of 'credit' - hence her question to the BHS staff.

    It is no one else's fault that she chose not to educate herself in such matters.

    She wouldn't be able to discern between a store card and a credit card - to her they're the same thing. In fact, to anyone they're the same thing - hence 'Barclaycard' processing the card.

    It's blatant dishonesty. Do you have shares in BHS?

    I'm finding it pretty amazing that there are so many here who are prepared to defend BHS's obfuscating behaviour...
  • The point (which some people are choosing to miss) was that she didn't think she was being offered a store credit card.
    She thought (because of the way it was put to her) it was a loyalty card.
    My mum is sufficiently financially savvy not to have had any dealings with store cards.
    Although store cards may have 'been around for years' they were never as aggressively marketed to customers as they are today.

    Write to BHS if you must but no-one has died, nothing bad has happened. Oh, except to you and you were inconvenienced by having to talk to your mother for an hour on the phone.

    She's younger than my mum

    My mum is online; books our holidays, and uses internet banking, shops online etc

    If you're going to be so condescending about OP's mum and how naive she is...

    Of course Op's mum hasn't 'grown up' with store cards. They weren't around then. Doesn't preclude her from knowing what they are though.
