There are no trains from Penang itself. You have to get across to the mainland to Butterworth. The train is an interesting experience but I would say that flying is going to be more reliable.
Personally, I wouldn't lose sleep about it but if you want to be ultra-cautious then I'd switch to an earlier flight.0 -

You're right. On reflection Emirates close check in 90 mins before departure. I guess I have until 6pm to make it happen a total of 3hrs to get to KLIA.
Therafter the Insurance can take the strain. The earlier flight lands at LCCT at around 10am I think, so don't fancy hanging around and airport all day or risk going into KL for a few hours. My farts hospitalize small children

If you do hang around the LCCT for a while you can get beer from the fridge in the shop behind the burger joint next to the international Departures (over from McDonald's) look in the non-halal fridge, it helps to pass the time. (Many thanks to 'Fer Cre' for showing me this)0

You probably don't want to know. Being a Muslim country, all alcohol is expensive.
The exception is the island of Langkawi, which is a tax free zone, where the Tiger beer flows very cheaply.0 -

A big bottle take away from the fridge in a 7/11 about three pounds
if you can find a 7/11 with beer. Tins from the airport work out much more expensive. Penang a bit cheaper of course and easier to get.0 -

Langkawi is nice. Although had a nasty accident in a kayak there!
We back packed there & it was really cheap.0 -

I'm not aware of any insurance policy that would cover this risk. If you find one, please post details.0
