can anyone help me with app purchases on a kindle fire?? I allowed my grandson to play a free game I had downloaded ...my kindle fire is registered to my amazon account....i watched him play the game and at no time did the app ask for a password yet the next day i had over £6 worth of charges on my amazon account...he obviously clicked on something that allowed him to buy something but for the life of me I didnt see how he did it. I have enabled parental controls on the kindle now but not sure if that will fix the problem of amazon not needing a password...anyone help??

Considering that this thread alone started in January (let alone the fact this has been happening for ages) anyone that is encountering this problem now really isn't paying attention.

It's easy to stop, you need to take responsibility for your own actions.
  • When I tackled this last month, Orange didn't help - denied any responsibility. However, tried again today and Customer Services Rep 'Hidesh' :Thas refunded the 8 x weekly 82p charges and has advised me to text STOP to 60113, which he said is a free text.:D
The background is - I got caught out by downloading a free game for my child not knowing the password wasn't required for the following 15mins. :j

Back in my day, a empty box, washing up bottle and a garden gave me hours of fun.

    I'm old:(

My 14 year son has his own smartphone on contract as it was cheaper than on PAYG, registered as an additional line to my own.

He downloaded some free game apps from Google Android and played a few. However, when the direct debit for the bill left my bank account I discovered that each time these games have been played they have charged astronomical sums for the privilege. Research has shown some of these companies are from Egypt, Korea and USA. The total for this naivety is now just over £300.

As soon as this was discovered I rang Vodafone who put a block on any further playing of any games, but I am left £300 lighter, which I can ill afford.

The company names on the bill are; Gamevil USA Inc, Disney Platform Di, Optimus, Opera, Myquiz2win Skill, Electronic Arts Ne, Lordas Limited and Sparkling Society.

A lot of the thread seems to deal with young children playing on parents phones, but not much regarding teenagers. Neither myself nor my son had any idea that these scans are so prolific.

I'd like to try and recoup some of this money and would be grateful for any advice, or to hear of any similar stories.

i allowed my 4 year to play angry birds on facebook on the PC, i thought it was free, this morning i noticed him buying coins, all he had to do was click buy now, he was never once asked for my paypal password, i didn`t even realise i had paypal link to facebook,
i checked with paypal and was shocked to see that he that he has spent £235 in the last 3 days, i had no notifications, no emails, nothing to show me that he had been doing this,
i have tried to email facebook, but got an automated resonce to fill out a payment support form, i have filled it out, but when i click send nothing seems to happen, i get nothing to say message sent,
i have tried to dispute the payments with paypal, but all i get is invalid transactions,
    i desperatly need urgent help
  • Have just discovered my wife has had £1700 taken from her account due to games played on our son's phone. He has no access to our passwords or accounts and has a credit limit on his phone. How can this even happen and what are our chances of retrieving the money? EE say it's nothing to do with them and to contact the owners of the game! This was last month's bill and there may yet be another one coming. Can anyone offer any words of hope?

Ouch! Your card will be linked somehow, you could always try your bank?

Was it an iphone? If it was, you might be able to get help from Apple.
