Will we ever see the Australian Dollar return to levels of 2009?

We are seeing around $1.50 to the pound, and have done for quite some time now. Is there any hope that it will return to around the $2.00 mark?

in simple terms if anyone knew the answer to that question they wouldn't be hanging around a money saving site. to give you an example say I have a mate in Oz who can liquidate $150000 and convert it to GBP he's gonna end up with approx £100000 so with this knowledge you are seeking he hangs on to this money and changes it back to AUS $'s when its back to $2 and eh voila he's made himself $50000, less any conversions fees etc

I was over there about five years ago and getting about $2.20 to the pound. It peaked that year at around $2.60. Today's rates make Australia a very expensive destination.

I was in Oz to watch the Ashes in 06/07. We were getting around $2,50ish at the time. We were back in 2010/11. When we arrived we got $1.62,when we left in early Jan,it was down to $1.54. Can't see us going this yr unless a miracle happens.

Actually I found it expensive in Oz five years ago at the higher exchange rate. It will be much worse now. :(

Given the news today that vast oil reserves have been found in the outback it is unlikely that the Oz $ will fall in value any time soon.
  • Yes it is expensive but what a great place to visit. I remember going when it was over $2 to the pound. Putting a holiday together for August it is about $1.5 at the moment. Trouble is I am a bit addicted to the place. I love driving on the outback roads, stretching off into the distance with red desert on both sides of the road. The Bungles is costing me a small fortune this year!
