More Dodgy Estate Agent Advice Needed

Hi,

yet again, more trouble with my estate agent. I went home at lunchtime to pick up post from my house and realised I didn't have my keys with me. No problem, the estate agents are just round the corner and they have a spare set.

Went in, asked for my spare keys, estate agent refused. He went mental, said I was trying to stop the sale, started insulting me, started swearing at me. He's even lied to me about the date of the survey (told me he needed the keys because the surveyor is coming round today when I'd spoken to the surveyor and arranged the visit for Wednesday).

Spoken to trading standards, as he isn't a member of any of the regulatory schemes there is no-one I can complain to.

I've had enough of him, there's no chain for me so no urgency and I'd be happy to go with another agency. How do I get out the deal without any penalties? The house is jointly owned and I've never signed any agreements, though the other owner has.

Cheers,

Stuart

Complain to the head of their office - do they think that swearing at a customer is acceptable?

That's what trading standards said. Unfortunately, it's a small, independant local agency and the guy I had the run in with is the owner.

If nothing else I'd take the keys back and deal with the viewings yourself - I wouldn't trust that he'd market the property for your fairly after this.

    Good Luck

The keys belong to you - surely it's your right to demand them back? Or am I being too simplistic here?

Give us his address, we'll send the boys round with a pair of pliers and a blow torch.

In that case I would cancel your agreement in writing, citing unprofessional and aggressive behaviour, and state your views of no confidence. I wouldn't want such an individual holding my keys, so if he refuses to let you out of your contract you could ask for a reduced fee, handle the viewings yourself, and deal with him only by phone/email. Or if he does it again try the local press.
Or you could just let it ride out and then switch..
    Good luck

not all estate agents are d*cks. Find an agent who is regulated and you wont have any hassle, cos at least they have to watch themselves!

So your estate agent insulted you, called you a liar, swore at you and lied to you. Only one way to sort that out!
